Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The mission of NCIPH is to collaboratively lead and foster innovative solutions to public health challenges in NC and beyond, by creating systems, policies, and programs that work for all.

Position Summary:

This full-time professional position, Workforce Development Program Specialist, is based in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health: North Carolina Institute for Public Health (NCIPH).

NCIPH workforce development programs play a valuable role in shaping the professional education and leadership development of the public health workforce. At Gillings and NCIPH, we are committed to training and developing public health professionals in an intentionally diverse and inclusive climate.

This role will manage and coordinate project work related to the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of continuing professional development programs and related projects. Examples of potential projects include supporting our School Nurse Conference, the Division of Public Health Fellowship program, the North Carolina Credential Public Health Nursing program, as well as various public health leadership training courses including those for the NC Boards of Health and new NC local health directors.

Work will require a high level of engagement with public health and other professionals from a wide range of service sectors, primarily in North Carolina. This position will interact with funders, clients, and subject matter experts. They will serve as the primary contact for many projects they are involved in, and will solve problems, provide technical assistance, and elevate potential issues to the Principal Investigator. They will need to have excellent customer service skills to build and maintain good-standing relationships NCIPH has with these individuals.

The person in this role will work under the supervision of senior level leaders, and on occasion may serve as a project lead. Also, this role will actively contribute to the strategic development and planning and implementation of new projects and programs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Essential Skills:
* Ability to work independently within a team-based structure to accomplish goals and objectives according to project timelines.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills. Detail oriented.
* Proficiency with Zoom, and Microsoft Office suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams/SharePoint.
* Demonstrated skills in project management.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Preferred Skills:
* Successful track record of coordinating or managing complex projects, preferably in a higher education setting.
* Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and be able to handle multiple tasks.
* Prior experience workforce development and training, preferably within the public health sector, and subject matter expertise in one or more public health areas.
* Proficiency in Asana software.
* Knowledge and or experience in Public Health
