The Michigan State University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a fixed-term teaching specialist position beginning January 1, 2025. This position is initially a three-year appointment, with renewals occurring through an annual reappointment process. Further extensions will be based on the Department's teaching needs, availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and mutual agreement. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching structural analysis courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in civil engineering. The primary duties of this position are teaching and service. The candidate must have an M.S. or higher degree in civil engineering and 2 years of industry and/or academic experience. The candidate must be able to teach undergraduate level courses in statics, structural analysis, and structural mechanics, as well as graduate level courses in areas such as nonlinear structural mechanics, smart materials, structural dynamics, and seismic design. The candidate must be able to effectively communicate with students and manage classes of different sizes.
