Summary:
The position supports preclinical research in the Dept. of Urology under Dr. Blake Wilde. The overarching goal of the Wilde lab is to decipher the mechanisms by which metabolism regulates tumor initiation and to target metabolism in order to prevent cancer. Wilde lab research focuses on kidney cancers, with an emphasis on hereditary cancer syndromes.
The ideal candidate will be a curious, self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced research environment and works well with other lab members and collaborators. Experience in biochemical and molecular techniques is necessary. The research consists of:
1. Using biochemical techniques to assess the pathogenicity of germline variants predisposing to cancer.
2. Using cell culture techniques to decipher the metabolic requirements of cancer cell initiation.
3. Establishing genetically engineered and xenograft/allograft mouse models of kidney cancer.
The candidate will also be responsible for lab management, including updating and maintaining IACUC protocols, ordering lab supplies, and coordinating safety and regulatory standards in the lab.
The pay range for this position is $23.24 - $28.05 hourly which includes a comprehensive benefits package. The listed pay range reflects the range of potential compensation for this role. The actual offer may vary based on qualifications, skills, and experience.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
1. Master's degree in a science-related field; or
2. Bachelor's degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time laboratory experience, including six (6) months experience training or leading subordinate staff or students in the performance of assigned laboratory tasks; or
3. Associate's degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time laboratory experience, including six (6) months experience training or leading subordinate staff or students in the performance of assigned laboratory tasks; or
4. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of five (5) years of full-time laboratory experience, including six (6) months experience training or leading subordinate staff or students in the performance of assigned laboratory tasks.
NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
Experience collaborating with researchers, tracking projects
Experience managing a multi-person team.
Demonstrated excellence in two or more of the following molecular and biochemical techniques:
metabolomics (e.g. LC-MS), molecular cloning, western blotting, cell culture, recombinant protein production and purification, enzymatic assays, RT-qPCR, mouse breeding, mouse handling and various animal techniques, microscopy, immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, bioinformatics.
Generation of scientific abstracts and data for publications and grant applications
Published peer-reviewed research
