Senior Insulation Scientist

The Insulation Research and Development team consists of engineers and scientists that are responsible for developing breakthrough technologies in support of Carlisle Construction Material's current and future needs in the roofing and wall insulation businesses. As a senior scientist you will work closely with value chain partners, commercial leadership, and technical leadership to support the current business and innovate the next generation of sustainable insulation technologies.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for an individual to make an impact on innovative product solutions to deliver growth for the insulation business. The successful candidate will become an expert in our insulation products and will lead major cross functional innovation and new product development projects within the Research and Development group. This position operates under the general guidance of the R&D Insulation Team Leader.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Lead multiple Innovation and New Product Development (NPD) projects, driving the creation of cutting-edge insulation technologies.
* Conduct and lead research activities on both new and existing insulation products, focusing on polyurethane and polyisocyanurate systems.
* Utilize advanced material characterization techniques, including FTIR and rheological analysis, to explore the structure-property relationships of polymers.
* Oversee technical projects from ideation to commercialization, ensuring the successful development and launch of new products.
* Support business growth through product improvements, raw material qualification, performance enhancements, and cost-reduction projects.
* Collaborate with diverse departments including sales, marketing, manufacturing, and purchasing to define project scope and priorities for future development.
* Present research findings via technical reports and presentations to drive innovation while championing safety.

Position Requirements:

* BS, MS, or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, Material Science & Engineering, or Chemistry

* Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development, preferably related to polymers or materials science. Experience specific to polyurethane or polyisocyanurate systems is desired, but experience in related industries or technologies will be considered.
* Strong understanding of thermoset polymers and associated physical, chemical, and mechanical properties. Knowledge of polyurethane/polyisocyanurate systems and experience with FTIR and rheological analysis is preferred.
* Proven project management and leadership skills in a cross-functional environment, with experience managing projects from concept to commercialization.
* Hands-on experience conducting trials in manufacturing environments, pilot-scale equipment, and laboratory settings.
* Familiarity with phase-gate processes for new product development and ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization.
* Ability to travel independently to various remote sites, including research labs, manufacturing facilities, and customer locations as required.

* BS, MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, Material Science & Engineering, or Chemistry

* 5+ years of experience in the development of polyurethane/polyisocyanurate products and their associated processing technologies is a plus

* Theoretical and practical knowledge of the physical, chemical, and mechanical behavior of thermoset polymers. Knowledge specific to polyurethane/polyisocyanurate chemistries is a plus.

* Basis statistical and data analysis skills, understanding of structure property relationships of polymers

* Experience with FTIR and rheological analysis of polymers

* Experience in formulating for polyurethane/polyisocyanurate systems

* Strong project management and leadership skills in a cross functional environment
* Experience conducting trials in a manufacturing environment as well as executing experiments on lab and pilot-scale equipment
* Experience working in a phase-gate process for new product development
* Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization
