Essential Functions and Other Job Information:

Essential Functions

• Analyzes application problems and opportunities, develops recommendations, and implements solutions.
• Troubleshoots and resolves application-specific support issues for applications.
• Supports with actions, recommendations, and experienced judgment during systems recovery efforts.
• Installs and maintains enterprise and/or laboratory application software, including dedicated hardware, application code deployments, and configuration changes.
• Leads development of Package Software modification requirements and Interface Design Specifications. Configures necessary tables in Packaged Software to support specific business areas.
• Trains and mentors staff.
• Provides management input and recommendation on strategic decisions.
• Completes change requests and qualifications.
• Liaises with internal and external customers to determine long-term issue resolution.
• Analyzes incoming laboratory requests for new instrument systems

Job Complexity

Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

Job Knowledge

A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.

Supervision Received

Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for acquiring solutions.

Business Relationships

Represents the department as a prime contact on projects. Interacts with internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between functional areas.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
• Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5+ years) or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Detailed understanding of server administration and architecture (Windows Server, Linux).
• Ability to interact with relational databases (primarily Oracle, some SQL Server).
• Advanced support knowledge of the applications/technology being supported.
• Advanced support knowledge of desktop operating systems and desktop efficiency applications.
• Ability to diagnose problems, define/resolve/coordinate the implementation of solutions with other groups.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of application problems.
• Self-motivated with the initiative to see issue resolution through to completion.
• Business-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills.
• Positive attitude with a dedication to high-quality work.
• Demonstrated ability to acquire new technical skills.

Management Role:

No management responsibility.

Environment and Conditions:

• Work is performed in an office/laboratory/clinical/and/or home office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.
• For Labs-based staff, travel up to 60-80% of the time, domestically with extended overnight stays. Light/occasional travel for corporate-based staff.
• For Labs-based staff, exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms.
• Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments, and gloves.
• Exposure to fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures on rare occasions.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day.
• Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
• Frequent mobility required.
• Occasional crouching, stooping, bending, and twisting of upper body and neck.
• Light to moderate lifting and carrying of objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.
• Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
