Full-Time Days

Receiving general direction from the Security Director or Security Operations Manager, the incumbent shall provide a safe and secure environment for Hospital patients, visitors, and employees by enforcing Hospital security regulations and by continuously watching for and the timely report of any and all safety hazards or unusual occurrences through patrol of assigned areas; furthermore the incumbent; provides protective service and response for protection of the people and property of the Hospital; is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of his/her assigned shift and shift personnel.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the oversight of Security Officer(s) assigned to his/her shift. This includes (but is not limited to) proper issuance and return of equipment; properly unformed officers; proper coverage of security posts and shift; timely completion of calls, rounds, daily log entries and incident reports.
  • Is involved in and makes recommendations on hiring, promotion, performance improvement plans, annual performance reviews and termination. Executes disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Ensures adequate coverage for the next shift, special details and constant observations, which may require holding staff over.
  • Notifies Security Manager and/or Director of any special occurrences (i.e. any failure of persons, equipment, policy or procedure disruptive to normal business or having potential for negative consequence or publicity).
  • Facilitates timely completion of On the Job Training (OJT) for new hires and monthly in-service training for shift personnel.
  • Ensures that staff is competent in all aspects in BWFH Policies and Procedures through good communication, training and mentorship. Continually monitors staff performance.
  • Reviews all pass-on logs and reports since last shift worked to ensure continuity of services and provide appropriate follow up.
  • Manages investigations by assisting in the performance of fact-finding investigations; interviews victims, witnesses and suspects as appropriate; assists with arrest of criminal suspects; ensures completion, accuracy and timeliness of all documentation.
  • Actively participates in Department projects and initiatives and assists in the application of the hospital's Safety and Security Management Program.
  • Monitors the video surveillance system and integrated security systems (i.e. CCure, Vocera, Radio, DSS Logger, Detex, etc.). Troubleshoots system problems to ensure proper operations; reports any problems and makes recommendations as to functionality to the appropriate person, group or department.
  • Reviews and approves incident reports completed by officers on their shift.
  • Oversees the completion of fire drills as required.
  • Oversees the completion of special projects and initiatives.
  • Must be able to run a MA Vehicle Registration as well as conduct a Threat Assessment as necessary. This requires valid access to Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS).
  • Conducts and assists in conducting annual Security Risk Assessments.
  • Performs all regular duties of a Security Officer I and Security Officer II in addition to the above duties.
  • If licensed as a Special State Police Officer (SSPO), performs all regular duties of Police Officer (IIA).
  • May have to work other shifts as necessary.
  • Acts as Security Console Operator runner as needed.
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications
  • A strong educational background (Associate's or Bachelor's degree) in criminal justice or related field is preferred. A combination of both experience and education will be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a MA driver's license or valid license from the state in which the employee resides
  • Must submit to and pass an annual criminal background check.
  • A minimum of 1 year within BWFH Police, Security and Safety Department is preferred
  • An Associate's Degree in criminal justice or related field is preferred
  • Previous experience Supervising multiple reports preferred
  • Exemplifies all I CARE Standards in job performance
  • Possesses and exhibits exemplary customer service and communication skills.
  • Requires exemplary skills in the areas of leadership, training, operational systems and investigations.
  • Is a role model to others and is viewed as an expert resource within the department.
  • Physically must be able to lift patients (approximately 50 pounds) with the help of others, walk at a rapid pace, walk/stand for extended periods of time and withstand adverse weather conditions.
  • Must possess all the skills/competencies required of a Security Officer I and Security Officer II in addition to the ones listed above.
Must maintain the following licensure and certifications throughout employment:
    • De-Escalation Training and Healthcare Defensive Tactics System (HDTS)-formerly known as Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
    • Handcuff Training
    • Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Spray Training
    • First Aid/CPR/AED
    • HazMat Level C Operations (All Hazards Awareness for Healthcare Personnel and Healthcare Personal Protective Equipment Operations
Must complete
    • Successful completion of annual Security Sensitive Risk Assessment
    • International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Supervisor Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
    • Massachusetts License to Carry Class A Licensure
    • Ability to be licensed as a Special State Police Officer under the Commonwealth of MA General Laws Chapter 22 C, section 63.
