We are seeking a Scientific Program Analyst to support the National Institutes of Health's (NIH), world renowned National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities

  • Independently and accurately collect, format, clean, structure and enrich complex data and evaluate its quality and integrity.
  • Analyze, evaluate and visualize complex datasets.
    • Experience analyzing NIH grants, scientific portfolios, programs and policies, bibliometric data, patent applications and awards, research trends, and social networks is strongly preferred.
  • Develop new tools and methods to enhance existing tools or analysis methods.
  • Manage and organize projects by developing and updating project plans that accurately reflect milestones, and resources for projects.
  • Work effectively to meet deadlines, often on a short turnaround, and be able to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
  • Review, monitor, analyze and interpret narrative and statistical findings from independently developed analyses or literature.
  • Communicate research results through multiple venues such as internal presentations, newsletter articles, conference presentations, project reports or scientific publications.
  • Assist in the documentation, organization, and maintenance of ongoing projects and activities or lead meetings as requested.
  • Work effectively in teams with diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise.
  • Keep up-to-date knowledge of key policies and Public Health concepts related to NIH funded research programs as well as data infrastructure and data management concepts.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's (BS) or Master's (MS) degree in a biological, biomedical, computational or data science field is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in data science or data analytics with proven ability to analyze data and translate analysis into meaningful insights.
  • Strong background working with R, RShiny and/or Python.
  • General understanding of SQL query development, general database principles, data coding, data integrity, and statistical sampling and Excel strongly preferred.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision but also participate in collaborative projects.
  • Able to rapidly respond to changing requirements and priorities.
  • Able to prioritize and multi-task across numerous work streams and keep organized.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills, including exceptional attention to detail with excellent follow through.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including visual representation of data for all audience levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with staff at all levels.
