GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology Research is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Research Technician to join Dr. Lael Yonker's COVID-19 laboratory. Our lab has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by instigating a bio-repository comprised of various biospecimens from pediatric patients. As a Research Technician, you will be performing a series of in-vitro assays and standard laboratory procedures to investigate COVID-19 until the study's completion, as well as assisting with the ongoing COVID-19 bio-repository. The main focus of this research is to understand the pathophysiology of various post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) related conditions. More specifically, our current project is focused on examining the role of white blood cell functionality in Long COVID. There is also opportunity to be involved in Sepsis and Cystic Fibrosis projects. Overall, our research aims to benefit people with various pediatric pulmonary ailments. We are seeking a team member who demonstrates exceptional communication skills, excels independently, and a willingness to learn!
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lab techniques including: pipetting, bacteria and tissue culturing, blood processing, western blot, microscopy, ELISA, flow cytometry, and PCR
- Data collection, analysis, interpretation, and storage
- Maintenance of an updated lab notebook and an online record of experiments
- Assists in organizing materials for presentations and publications
- Process, store, and document tissue samples (Under BSL2+ precautions)
- Preparation of chemical solutions and culture media
- Maintenance of tissue culture
- Maintains and orders supplies
- Potential for basic phlebotomy skills training
- Potential for clean room certification and development of microfluidic technology
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Computer literacy
- Familiarity with aseptic technique and lab protocols
- Ability to multitask and perform multiple tasks independently
- Ability to calculate dilutions and other math-related concepts
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft products including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Qualifications EDUCATION:Bachelor's degree required.
EXPERIENCE:College graduates with some prior lab experience (via course work, internships, etc.) preferred, but those without any lab experience will be considered.
