Reporting to the Principle Investigator, the Research Technician will be working in the Optics Group of the A.A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. The incumbent will perform the day-to-day duties of building and maintain fiber optics probes, designing and 3-D printing components needed for probes and devices, build repair and modify electronic components, assemble NIRS wearable devices, and design and build probes for service contracts. They will also performing general laboratory inventory and organization, maintain orders and supplies.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In order of importance, list essential areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation. This section should be completed as a bulleted list and explain how the role is performed.
• Adhesive terminate, machine polish and inspect single mode, multi-mode optical fiber and optical fiber bundles with FC, SMA and custom optical fiber connectors.
• Design and 3D print biocompatible optomechanical housings for the patient side of the probe.
• Assemble fibers, housings and micro-optics into a complete probe.
• Validate probe performance with tests on phantoms
• Design and print other components needed in the lab
• Help assembly and repair NIRS devices
• Assemble wearable NIRS devices
• Assemble electronic circuits
• Design and build optical probes for service contract users
