About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Research Project Manager in the Hart Center for Engineering Leadership will conduct research on projects about AI-powered emotional intelligence, emotion recognition/emotion AI (and more broadly technologies that infer sensitive information about people) and qualities such as ethics, privacy, and justice toward effective leadership development. The position is open to candidates interested in similar areas not squarely within the "emotion AI" landscape. The research manager will lead one staff member who is coordinating all the leadership events and professional development since we may be using the data from participants for research protocol.

Essential Functions:

  • Research - Conduct Research using AI/ML for leadership development. To do this, the candidate must be able to design the experiment, submitting IRB applications if people are involved, collect data (manually or automatically), design algorithm, modeling, data analytics procedure (workflow) design and development, and AI modeling and reasoning.
  • Publication - Co-authoring publications as lead author or co-author, preparing presentations and reports, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Proposal Writing - Look for opportunities to submit research proposals for funding purposes. Goal is to secure over $200,000 per year.
  • Leadership - will lead one staff who is coordinating all the leadership events and professional development activities. Some of the research project will get students involved as well as working professionals.
  • Others - Assisting with other related activities assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours may be required.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A doctoral degree is required.

A minimum of two (2) years of experience is required. Experience in AI/ML, Research experience, supervising of scientific studies, working with industry professionals is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Candidate familiarity with statistical packages is preferred.
