The University of Miami has a great opportunity for a Temporary Research Assistant to work in Miami, Florida.

Job Description

We are searching for a research assistant seeking to a join a vibrant research team making significant and meaningful contributions to the health of Hispanic adolescents and their families. The candidate would be joining a research team that has, through continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) over the past 20 years, has developed, tested, and disseminated behavioral interventions to prevent drug use, promote mental health, and improve the well-being of Hispanic youth in our local community and across the country. The research team has recently embarked on a new journey to study and improve the health and well-being of Hispanic sexual minority youth who have recently disclosed their sexual identify to their parents. With funding from the NIH, we will be testing an innovative behavioral intervention called "Familias con Orgullo," to determine whether this intervention prevents use and promotes mental health in Hispanic sexual minority youth. Individuals with a commitment and a passion to research, Hispanic health, and improving the lives of Hispanic sexual minority youth are encouraged to apply to this exciting position. We are also looking for individuals with familiarity and/or knowledge of sexual minority / LGBTQ+ populations.

Position Summary:

This position will report to the Assessment Manager of the research team yet have an opportunity to interact with other members of a highly interdisciplinary research team whose commitment to Hispanic health is unequivocal. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop research skills, grow professionally, and make an impact to the health of Hispanic sexual minority youth locally and beyond.

Principle Duties/Responsibilities in and outside campus:

• Interact with interdisciplinary research team.

• Screen potential study participants to verify study enrollment eligibility criteria per the guidelines to the approved grant

• Actively recruit potential participants.

• Enroll participants following study protocols under the supervision the assessment manager.

• Assist in administering REDCap questionnaires for data collection at multiple points in time.

• Travel with own transportation to off-campus sites.

• Establish and maintain working relationships with the assessment manager and other members of the research team.

• Responsible for maintaining accurate data on all record-keeping forms.

• Participate in all training activities.

• Help with the biospecimens collection required by the study.

• Make phone calls to contact families for assessments.

• Transport data collection equipment.

• Handle computers, laptops, and other equipment.

• Make observations from the field which can inform future studies for this population.

• Meet with study team members to discuss strategies to improve recruitment and retention.

• Conduct outside activities with families participating in the study intervention.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements:

• High School Diploma, Bachelor's preferred.

• Current, valid Florida driver's license.

• Be willing to use your own transportation for work purposes.

• Be flexible with their work schedule and able to work with an open schedule.

• Bilingual, fluent in English and Spanish.

• Individuals with familiarity and/or knowledge of sexual minority/LGBTQ+ populations.

• Must possess solid interpersonal and verbal skills.

• Preferably, experience working with adolescents.

• At least one year of experience working in a research setting or experience working in service-oriented industries.

• Basic computer skills and experience working with software such as Word and Excel are essential.

• Be willing to undergo the required training and possess the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with study venues (e.g., schools, community agencies, etc.) and the communities in which they are located.

The position is for a full-time or part-time temporary research assistant, depending on experience, academic background, and available position.
