The Rehabilitation Technologist designs, develops, modifies, maintains, and repairs assistive devices to ensure an effective set of tools is available for use with patient evaluations relative to rehabilitation device needs. This role helps facilitate patients' recovery and mobile adaptability by providing optimal devices that contribute to patient rehabilitation mobility.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Rehabilitation Technologist performs several duties to ensure that patient rehabilitation mobility equipment successfully meets patient needs.
  • Assembles and Repairs manual & power wheelchairs for all inpatients.
  • Maintains equipment including wheelchairs and other durable medical equipment for the inpatient and day program population, as well as patient in-room equipment such as call systems, switches, and laptop computers.
  • Arranges for the day-to-day maintenance and support for assistive technology systems.
  • Performs quality checks and documentation of assistive technology systems.
  • Maintains proper supply of nurse call devices, adaptive switches, DME and other equipment.
  • Programs Wheelchairs, seating system microcontrollers or patient laptop computers so that they function as expected and in a safe way for all customers.
  • Documents operation instructions, schematics and drawings, or inventory and safety checks. Clean and restock equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned/needed.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree (or degree in progress) in engineering, computer science, biomedical sciences or assistive technology from an accredited college is preferred.
  • May be waived with 6 years of related background along with 2 years of work experience demonstrating proficiency of AT/DME systems.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a variety of tasks involving using shop equipment for the maintenance.
  • Strong work experience in technology or the DME field and related hospital experience.
  • Knowledge of DME service and mechanics is preferred
  • Knowledge about hospital disinfection and cleaning procedures.
REQUIRED MINIMUM SKILLS
  • Must be able to build, modify and troubleshoot electronic circuits.
  • Knowledge of computer software Windows, Word.
  • Knowledge of Adaptive computer software and hardware such as, Head Mouse, Darci Morse Code, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, etc.
  • Must be able to read and create technical documents i.e.: schematics, flow, and procedure documents.
  • Must be able to apply technical information to address specific patient problems.
  • Technologist focusing on DME they must have an understanding of the computer programming, adjustment, and troubleshooting for power wheelchairs and related equipment such as laptops as programming tools.
  • Additionally, the Rehab Technologist must be proficient in using common hand tools in various positions and spaces.

  • Mechanical mindset, easily adaptable to rehabilitation mechanical equipment and tasks.
  • Hands on mechanical experience, preferred. Knowledge of electronic device setup and maintenance.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills. Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in team environment.
  • Self-motivated toward high performance.
  • Excellent problem resolution skills.
