The University of Miami's Autism Spectrum Assessment Clinic (UM ASAC), an affiliated clinic of the University of Miami's Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM CARD), has an open psychologist position available within the Department of Psychology. The position is a full-time (1.0 FTE), staff psychologist position. The psychologist will conduct comprehensive psychological services (assessment, intervention, consultation) for clients at ASAC/CARD offices throughout Miami-Dade County. The psychologist will provide clinical supervision to doctoral student trainees, as well as consultation to CARD specialists and other community professionals. In addition, the Department of Psychology offers an extensive network for clinical research/scholarly collaborations. Many of the staff and faculty at ASAC and CARD are actively engaged in UM and national collaborations. There is also the opportunity for program development involving outpatient services and consultation.
The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree (Psy.D. or Ph.D.) in psychology, be licensed (or license eligible) to practice psychology in Florida, possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate well with others and have knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Experience testing children and implementing evidenced-based assessment for ASD, including the ADOS-2 is necessary. Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) for speaking and writing is strongly preferred in order to serve the client population of our agency.
ASAC is a specialty clinic within the University of Miami's Department of Psychology that provides comprehensive diagnostic, psychological, psycho-educational, and multidisciplinary evaluations to individuals with or suspected of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) across the lifespan (12 months through adulthood). Most clients seen are preschool or school-aged children who are clinically complex and often present with co-occurring difficulties (e.g., ADHD, learning disorder, language disorder, mood and/or anxiety disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, etc.). Additionally, ASAC offers behavioral parent training (e.g., PCIT, RUBI) to children with ASD and caregivers. Services are provided via telehealth and/or in-person appointments. Our team is comprised of monolingual and bilingual licensed psychologists and a bilingual speech-language pathologist, as well as clinical psychology doctoral students, pediatric psychology interns, and post-doctoral associates. Located in Miami, Florida, ASAC serves individuals of various cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
In pursuing its mission to acquire, advance and disseminate knowledge within the Psychological and Biobehavioral Sciences, the Department of Psychology balances several academic endeavors including: teaching (e.g., undergraduate, graduate, faculty development, professional training), research (e.g., basic, applied), work with diverse populations, and community service. The Department's Behavioral Medicine Research Center is a highly successful interdisciplinary entity that facilitates collaborative research in medical settings.
