Position Overview:
The Project Estimating Lead implements, controls, and manages the overall project estimating process from conception to project closeout for a portfolio of projects. This position leads and develops a team of Motiva and contract project estimators. The Project Estimating Lead reports to the Project Controls and Assurance Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Act as site focal point and subject matter expert for project estimating practices, processes, and resources.
- Provide guidance and mentorship for estimating team.
- Effectively manage project portfolio and estimating resources.
- Perform estimate quality assurance and all necessary cost analysis.
- Understand estimated ratios and metrics and compare against established benchmarks. Assist with Key Performance Indicator reporting.
- Conduct field walks to understand project scope and execution strategy.
- Compare actual cost data against estimate and populate cost database.
- Perform project benchmarking and effectively communicate to stakeholders.
Experience and Qualifications:Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree paired with 10+ years of experience working in Capital Projects OR high school diploma paired with 15+ years of experience working in Capital Projects
- Experience working with engineering and construction contract personnel
- Strong understanding of Project Controls
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic understanding of the Capital Project stage-gated process and required deliverables
- Basic understanding of project execution processes
- Understands how to manage critical knowledge and information to stakeholders
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite of software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business
- Proficient using AspenTech Capital Cost Estimator
- Proficient using Accubid Estimating
- Strong understanding of Independent Project Analysis (IPA) benchmarking methodologies
- Strong understanding of IPA cost categories and metrics
- Basic understanding of SAP Project Systems Module
- Basic knowledge of Richardson Engineering Estimating
Physical Requirements:
- Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
