If unable to fill at the Professional Engineer I level, will consider applicants at the Engineer level. Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline and possession of a FE/EIT Certificate is required. Applicants will also be expected to obtain their professional engineer's license at the first available opportunity that they are eligible to sit for the examination.

The salary range for the Professional Engineer I level is $34.173 to $50.376 per hour. Salary is commensurate with applicant's education and experience, if approved. If unable to fill as a Professional Engineer I, will underfill as Engineer at $30.577.

Examples of Duties:

Perform assignments under limited supervision as directed by his/her supervisor including: perform field investigations and data gathering on existing dams and reservoirs within the state; review engineering drawings and specifications; perform in-depth evaluations of existing dams with regards to hydrology, hydraulics, and structural stability using up-to-date techniques and design criteria; conduct studies to determine the proper hazard class for existing dams; develop hydraulic models to estimate the area that may be inundated following a dam failure. Educate dam owners and the public about dam safety; and other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Professional Engineer: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment. Engineer: Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline. Must obtain Engineer Intern Enrollment (Engineering in Training Certification) within one year of employment.

OTHER: Overnight travel will be required on occasion.

Knowledge of civil engineering theories, principles and practices; especially in hydrology, open channel hydraulics, and geotechnical engineering. Skill in conducting hydrologic and hydraulic analyses; analyzing, interpreting, and applying engineering study results to improve the safety of dams; and performing HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS modeling. Ability to prioritize tasks; be detailed orientated; follow guidelines and specifications; work independently in solving complex engineering problems; investigate and gather data; organize and analyze data; prepare reports; establish and maintain effective relationships with public, federal, state and local agencies; communicate effectively; work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors; work in and around water and over rough terrain under varying environmental conditions; lift 50 pounds. Must have a valid driver's license.
