Job Description Summary
Animal and human research in Spinal Cord Injury
The Oudega and Perez Laboratories at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and Northwestern University in Chicago are seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to conduct research in spinal cord injury and repair. The Fellow will work on a project that involves therapeutics for enhancing axon regeneration and nervous system stimulation paradigms in an adult rat model of spinal cord contusion.
Involvement in human research protocols is possible. The main focus is on: 1) improving function after sub-acute and chronic spinal cord contusion; 2) understanding underlying mechanisms of the treatment modalities. The ultimate goal of the project is to develop and comprehend an innovative translational repair strategy for treatment of people with spinal cord injury.
We encourage a wide range of applicants to apply; especially those with experience in animal (rodent) spinal cord injury models, behavioral testing, quantitative anatomical analyses, molecular biology techniques, omics, and/or microcopy. The Postdoctoral Fellow will function as a member on a multidisciplinary team at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab/Northwestern University/VA under supervision of Dr. Monica Perez and Dr. Martin Oudega.
The Post-Doctoral Fellow, Research will assist in the design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research and/or development in collaboration with a research team.
