(Contingent upon available funding): 0.00 - 0.00, Commensurate with education and experience Work Schedule: TBD Faculty Appt Period: Job Summary: Department of Microbiology and Molecular GeneticsOklahoma State UniversityStillwater, OklahomaA DOE-supported postdoctoral position is available to study the function of photosynthetic complexes and the associated interaction networks associated with their function and regulation. The work combines bioinformatic approaches with physiochemical experimental techniques to clarify basic photosynthetic mechanisms at the cellular and molecular level using a cyanobacterial model organism that is amenable to genetic engineering. The project will combine information from the genome revolution with state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools to uncover functional diversity in key components of the bioenergetics machinery. This position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for up tp three years with further renewal contingent on subsequent funding success.  The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team involving several labs with strengths in molecular genetics, biochemistry, biophysics, and bioinformatics. The P.I.'s are dedicated to providing laboratory members with a nurturing training environment. Training will be provided in areas of photosynthetic physiology analysis using techniques such as chlorophyll fluorescence and spectroscopy to characterize genetic constructs. Bioinformatic techniques will be applied and developed to analyze sequence diversity to uncover novel variants of proteins used for photosynthetic energy harvesting. We are especially encouraging individuals with aptitude in computational methods to help improve an existing bioinformatics pipeline and to use cutting-edge computational techniques such as predicting protein-protein interactions using AlphaFold derivatives. Key Focus Areas:Protein Structure-Function Relationships: Explore the fascinating world of proteins and their functions, deciphering the intricate relationships that govern their behavior. Bioinformatics: Harness the power of computational tools and techniques to analyze and interpret complex biological data, making critical discoveries in our research. Molecular Evolution: Investigate the evolutionary forces shaping the molecular world, uncovering the secrets of adaptation and change. The link to apply is http://apply.interfolio.com/137405 Special Instructions to Applicants Full review applications begin January 10, 2024.
