PACS Senior Systems Administrator- Radiology North Liberty

The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty department of Radiology is seeking PACS Senior Systems Administrator. Will be primary PACS support stationed at MCNL, with a regular rotation back to the main University campus (MCU). Responsible for day-to-day operational support of PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) equipment including image workflow, archiving, auto-routing, diagnostic viewing workstations, prefetching, and other related activities. Will require a high level of proficiency and in-depth understanding of all Radiology interoperability and end-user workflow and support. Works closely with imaging teams across multiple departments to oversee complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the enterprise PACS system while ensuring timely access to diagnostic quality images are available 365x24x7, with a focus on the Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Radiology (MSK) staff stationed at MCNL. Responsible for ensuring successful deployment of workstations in MCNL reading rooms prior to facility opening and for coordinating PACS support around the facility go-live. Responsible for integrating other image processing systems with the PACS architecture for multiple hospital departments and will be the main support contact for the orthopaedic templating applications that integrate with PACS. Expected to independently troubleshoot any hardware or software issues that arise with the above systems, and will lead image acquisition/storage troubleshooting efforts with the Radiology field service engineer stationed at MCNL.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analysis: Active participant in the analysis and design of complex, enterprise Radiology IT configurations. Responsible for implementing integration across multiple Radiology imaging platforms. Active participant in departmental process improvement initiatives. Implements solutions that meet HCIS information protection requirements.
  • Implementation: Performs complex configuration and implementation of organization-wide Radiology IT solutions. Ensures integration between related systems and adherence to all security requirements.
  • Documentation: Maintains documentation for all completed projects and deployed applications. Assists with developing project plans and phases. Participates in vendor discussions related to RFI and RFP processes.
  • Support: Actively maintains and monitors complex, organization-wide application deployments. Participates in on-call responsibilities for complex and routine issues. Seeks opportunities to improve and streamline customer and application support processes. Coordinates regularly with the hospital IT department. Develop scripts to improve the management and support of Radiology IT systems.
  • Relationship Management: Actively involved with vendors to develop system deployment strategies. Collaborates with key stakeholders across the organization, including physicians, clinical staff, and vendor support teams.
  • Leadership: Leads project teams within the PACS division under the direction of the Team Manager. Provides mentorship and assists in the development of new PACS team members.

General supervision is received from Manager of PACS and Image Support Systems

Supervision exercised:

Administrative and functional supervision exercised over PACS Team during assigned project implementation.

Education Required
  • Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of STEM-focused education and work experience.
Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience working with computer hardware and operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of networking and computer operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles.
  • Demonstrated high mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to install, maintain and repair high performance workstation hardware.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Driver's license and ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Management Driver's safety requirements.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations and be able to return to UIHC within a 30-minute commute time to and from UIHC.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of network routing and switching technologies.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy.
  • Basic knowledge of radiology imaging technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Linux operating systems.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving ability to resolve issues and ensure functionality.
  • Experience participating in the RFP process.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently or within a team environment.
  • Experience working in a medical center environment.
  • Experience in the assembly, installation, troubleshooting and repair of computer hardware and software.
