Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Pediatric and Public Health provides oral health care for individuals from infancy through adolescence, and promotes the prevention of oral disease. The Pediatric Dentistry discipline is committed to the treatment of children, adolescents and special needs patients while balancing teaching, scholarship, patient care, research and professional service activities.
Position Summary:The Medical Support Technician will provide clinical support to our faculty providers, residents, dental assistants and hygienists. Tasks include but are not limited to: routine assembling and preparing supplies and instruments needed for procedures; performing sterilization according to OSHA standards; infection control; organization and inventory of supplies; maintaining dental equipment and medical supplies; cleaning operating room settings as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:Excellent communication skills and be able to work with, and exercise, tact and diplomacy with a wide variety of individuals (including staff, students, graduate residents and faculty) and to be flexible in working in different specialty clinics (Pediatrics, Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Dental Faculty Practice, Operative, and General Dentistry). The person in this position communicates in a professional and informed manner, providing support to clinical staff as needed, responding and is flexible to work in close coordination and as assigned by their direct supervisor. The position requires the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to thrive in a fast-paced environment while delivering high-level customer service. The position requires strong professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others and change tasks frequently is essential.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:Demonstrated experience working in a team environment, and providing support in clinical setting. Some coursework or clinical training in a medical or dental setting.
