The Senior Learning Manager is responsible for providing learning and development services that support the needs of corporate business units and client training. Includes the implementation and management of targeted L&D solutions. Working cooperatively with the Sr. Director, Learning produces best-in-class learning initiatives for ABS employees and clients. Leads a global team of learning development and delivery professionals, directing the design , implementation, and evaluation of learning interventions that promote maximum staff effectiveness and present ABS as a thought leader in maritime education. Collaborates with business leaders to identify learning needs, efficiently develops effective and engaging interventions, and measures the impact of learning initiatives on organizational performance goals. This is a crucial role in shaping the technical skills and knowledge of ABS employees; ensuring they consistently deliver the highest standards of service and contribute to the overall organizational success.

What You Will Do:

  • Ensure the effective and efficient production of a wide spectrum of learning interventions, including classroom, virtual classroom, web-based, video, micro-learning, and immersive gaming initiatives.
  • Collaborate with ABS leadership to identify business needs, learning objectives, and opportunities for performance improvement through learning interventions.
  • Create and execute action plans to develop and deliver world-class training to ABS employees, ensuring they are aligned to organizational business needs while meeting and maintaining statutory requirements.
  • Work with the Sr. Director, Learning to develop best-in-class maritime industry training programs for ABS clients, continually seeking innovative experiences to create competitive advantages.
  • Responsible for the outcomes of the learning development and experience teams.
  • Direct and optimize development production. Establish development efficiency KPIs and drive continuous improvement without sacrificing the quality of learning interventions.
  • Oversee ABS Metaship program development for employees and client deliverables; manage vendor relationships, content development, program deployment and measure program effectiveness.
  • Monitor project performance and analyze progress and risks, proactively identifying and addressing challenges to ensure successful project outcomes and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Design and establish benchmarks that measure the impact and effectiveness of learning interventions to create value (ROI).
  • Create and manage business plans and operating/capital budgets for areas of responsibility.
  • Develop identified facilitators to more effectively deliver global programs.
  • Position the Learning Organization in ABS; includes the development of reports, presentations, and other communications targeted to the appropriate audience (senior leadership, management, employees, and clients).
  • Manage IACS, EU, and related audits (including internal audits) about ABS employee training.
  • Maintain internal learning organization policies and procedures about the development and delivery of employee training. Guide business leaders regarding learning practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Stay current with and apply the latest theories and best practices for adult learning theory, instructional design, learning technologies, and expert facilitation.
What You Will Need:

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Human Resource Development, or other learning-related field. Master's Degree in HR, business, or related field preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
  • 8+ years of leadership and management experience overseeing a commercial training production team demonstrating the ability to motivate people, instill accountability, and achieve results.
  • 5+ years of project management experience; proven experience in overseeing IT & systems implementations preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Significant experience leading in-house training development and delivery teams for a commercial organization delivering training programs with a profit-centered mindset.
  • Experience utilizing ADDIE and Agile methodologies.
  • Experienced with project management principles, project-based accounting, and utilization measurements.
  • Detailed knowledge of learning technologies and system integrations with Enterprise Resource Management solutions (Learning Management Systems, Virtual Classroom, Video Streaming, eCommerce, Digital Asset Management, etc.).
  • Prior experience working with immersive (VR/AR) or simulated gaming content production is preferred.
  • Prior experience in training leadership role at an Engineering (or related) organization preferred.
  • Prior experience working as a business partner to departments or profit centers within the business.
  • Experience with planning, delivering, and executing projects and processes in an agile fashion.
  • Ability to understand the survey/operations, engineering, BD, and technology business units within ABS.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Exceptional communication and organization skills.
  • Agile, proactive, comfortable working with ambiguous specifications, and able to re-prioritize to meet shifting objectives
  • Working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System.
Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the Senior Learning Director and may have Managing and/or Individual Contributor direct reports.
