The University of Denver's Morgridge College of Education (MCE) invites applications for the position of Manager, Grants Administration.

Position Summary

The Manager of Grant Administration partners with the Dean and the Assistant Dean (AD) managing financial, human resources, and general business operations functions for the sponsored projects at the college. The Manager is experienced in managing federal, state, local, and private grants and awards. The Manager serves as a business partner for the departments and institutes and ensures all current-year transactions align with the current-year budget and supports long-term strategies. The position reports directly to the college's Director of Budget & Operations. Additionally, this position will collaborate closely with college stakeholders, including faculty and researchers also serving as a point of contact for transactional processes for central offices across the university. The ideal candidate will have the proven skills outlined below and the ability to oversee financial, human resources, and operational projects from inception to completion.

Essential Functions

Grant and Research Administration

  • Manage grant budgets and prepare spending projections
  • Monitor for cost overruns, ability to distinguish allowable costs
  • Ensure accuracy of reports and transactions, initiate transfers where appropriate
  • Provide progress reports to Investigators, regulatory bodies and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide final reports to Investigators, regulatory bodies and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide support for Electronic Research Administration system for faculty and staff
  • Set up and administration of sub-contracting efforts, set up and administration of consultants, while working with ORSP
  • Prepare and verify effort certifications, performing payroll and time entry
  • Perform payment operations including P-Card, purchase orders and other entries as needed
  • Assist in ensuring rules and regulations of sponsoring agencies are adhered to
  • Aid in review and interpretation of agency specific guidelines
  • Grant Proposal Support and Preparation
  • Assist Investigators in proposal preparation including budget preparation and completion of standard forms as required, providing administrative training in the use of systems that support faculty searches for research funding
  • Provide Investigators with advice on budget restrictions, direct/indirect cost rates and other budgetary issues based on ORSP and sponsor guidelines.
  • Route necessary documents and forms through appropriate systems (College, University, Federal and State agencies, and other research sponsors)
Operations and Supplemental Support
  • Assists the MCE Business Team to accomplish the following:
  • Process general ledger entries related to human resources, finance, and other transactions as needed or directed.
  • Conduct training sessions and coordinates onboarding for new staff members with budgetary and HR responsibilities.
  • Work to review the college's business process and their continuous improvement.
  • Provides and manages backup support for essential business functions in college departments during staff vacancies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean and AD.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Direct prior experience with federal and state government agencies that administer sponsored research including budget preparation and monitoring, and grant administration
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to develop, read, analyze, and interpret general business, financial documents, and budget reports.
  • Ability to comprehend contractual documents
  • Excellent skills in conflict resolution.
  • Proven ability to work with a high level of independence, maintain confidentiality, prioritize assignments and division needs
  • Ability to work and lead within a team environment, building professional work relationships with coworkers, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent ability to work independently, solve problems, provide positive leadership, and demonstrate due discretion and excellent judgment.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in grant application and submissions, grant management, accounting & bookkeeping
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in relevant field of study or Certified Research Administrator Certificate
  • 5 years of direct experience in grant application and submissions, grant management
  • Higher education experience.
  • Experience working with state, federal and private grants, and gifts.
  • Advanced knowledge of Banner and Concur.
  • Past supervisory experience.

  • Standard office environment
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate
Physical Activities
  • Ability to sit at a desk and in front of a computer for an extended period of time
  • Occasionally required to move about the office or campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

In accordance with the University's flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 12.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
