The Manager, Production and Concert Halls oversees stage management, lighting, and concert hall operations for the Frost Music Live Signature Series and other events. This role includes planning, coordinating, and executing all production aspects of performances, managing student staff, and ensuring that all technical systems and concert spaces are well-maintained and fully operational. The position requires significant collaboration with directors, production teams, and external clients, as well as a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

1. Stage Management:

  • Plan and execute stage management activities for Frost Music Live Signature Series and other assigned events.
  • Create run-of-show schedules and implement stage plots for performances.
  • Serve as the primary stage manager for performances, ensuring smooth transitions and technical readiness.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise student concert hall staff serving as stage managers and stage hands.

2. Lighting Technician:
  • Plan and execute lighting setups, including focusing and operating lighting equipment for events.
  • Program lighting consoles, load automated color change systems, and operate both manual and computer-controlled lighting systems during performances.
  • Maintain lighting equipment, ensuring it is in safe, working condition. Collaborate with external lighting designers when necessary.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise student lighting technicians.

3. Concert Hall Management:
  • Serve as house manager for concerts as assigned, overseeing front-of-house operations, including ticket takers, ushers, and greeters.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise approximately 40 student concert hall staff members for various front-of-house duties.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Production Services, Director of Music Operations, and Events Director to maintain a master calendar of events, including client space allocations, event timing, and staffing needs.
  • Monitor the security, cleanliness, and maintenance of all performance spaces, ensuring they are functional and meet safety standards.
  • Provide concert hall tours and meet with clients and listees to discuss event requirements when needed.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for student and concert hall operations.

4. Administrative and Miscellaneous:
  • Meet regularly with the production team to plan and advance event information.
  • Collaborate with the Performance Committee on planning future events and performances.
  • Assist the Director of Music Operations and the Associate Dean of Administration with other tasks related to school operations and events.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in performing arts, music, theater, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:
  • A minimum of four years of experience in lighting and stage management, preferably in a music, theater, art, or educational organization. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
  • Experience in a supervisory role, including training and managing staff.
  • Experience working as part of a management team and coordinating with various departments.

Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of theater or public events staging procedures, techniques, and facility operations.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to train, schedule, and supervise staff, with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and diverse communities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Expertise in working with ETC and Chamsys lighting systems.
  • Experience with robotic and conventional lighting fixtures.
  • Proficiency in Vectorworks and/or CAD 3D modeling software for technical planning.
  • Knowledge of video switchers, projectors, and basic sound consoles and rigging systems is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain accurate paper and electronic records.

Work Environment:
  • Evening and weekend work is required, as the position supports concerts and events that occur outside of normal working hours.
  • Flexibility to work over 40 hours a week when needed to accommodate event schedules.
  • The position involves a hands-on role in maintaining a safe and operational work environment for students, staff, and external clients.
