Tuesday - Friday, 11:00AM - 7:30PM; Saturday 9:00AM-5:30PM

In autumn quarter of the 2021-22 academic year, R&DE will return to providing housing for over 13,000 students and dependents, serving meals at 17 dining halls, 12 retail locations, and operating athletic concessions and conference operations. Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

Working under the direction of the Assistant Director for Commercial Kitchens and Residential Appliances, this position performs all aspect of commercial kitchen equipment and residential appliance maintenance including troubleshooting, repair, installations, and preventive maintenance. Under the guidance of a Lead technician, responsibilities include handling own assigned work in refrigeration, cooking equipment, and dishwashing equipment. Requires the ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, use an electrical multimeter and other diagnostic equipment.

Please note that the base Maintenance Person Series Job Description series includes multiple trades in its generic form; however, the purpose of this position is commercial kitchen equipment and residential appliance service work with possible emergency assistance for other trades. Expectations for the successful candidate for this position are journey-level skills, knowledge, and service experience with all types of kitchen equipment.

Work Agreement:

This role is designated as essential and requires incumbents to report to work onsite. Telecommuting is not available for this role.

Key points/tasks of Job Purpose:

  • Troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues/problems with all residential appliances (ie. Ovens, Stoves, Microwaves, Refrigerator/freezers).

  • Consistently and appropriately use various aspects of an electrical multimeter.
  • Read and understand wiring diagrams and electrical schematics to the extent of tracing electrical circuits for troubleshooting.

  • Deliver customer service by not only quality field service work but also involving communication to customers and support staff for thoroughness.

  • Climb ladders - while applying all OSHA safety standards.

  • Work in congested areas with heavy foot traffic - while applying all OSHA safety standards.

  • Maintain clean & organized interior of work vehicle.

  • Maintain clean & organized workspaces when performing service in the field.

  • Utilize smart phone and electronic tablet devices.
  • Send and receive emails.
  • Job Responsibilities:

    This series of job classifications describes positions in which employees perform a variety of locksmith duties including installation and record maintenance of master keying systems, locksmith work on individual lock problems, as well as additional similar duties as required. They also provide a variety of services relating to building hardware, electronic door closures or door checks, and on-line or stand-alone electronic access locks.

    There are two levels in the series: Locksmith, Maintenance and Locksmith, Master. They are differentiated on the basis of the experience and expertise required to perform the work, and the range of responsibilities inherent in the position. In addition to regular locksmith duties, the Master Locksmith is responsible for extensive planning and record-keeping activities associated with master keying systems.

    ·Work under general supervision and perform carpentry, automotive and/or maintenance tasks of substantial complexity.

    ·Employees in this classification typically work within prescribed procedures, but may make

    ·unique and innovative modifications as necessary to safely and expeditiously discharge their assigned work.

    ·Work may be spot checked while in progress or inspected upon completion.

    ·May work alone, and/or as a member of a crew.

    Characteristics Duties:

    Carpentry Maintenance

    ·Work from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions to construct and repair structural woodwork.

    ·Lay out work as required.

    ·Build, repair and install counters, benches, partitions, floors, doors, stairs, ladders, building framework, etc.

    ·May repair and maintain roofs.

    ·Select specified type of lumber or other material.

    ·Shape materials to prescribed measurements.

    ·Install paneling to walls and ceilings.

    ·Fit and install windows, doors, door frames, etc.

    ·Construct concrete forms and pouring chutes, may do some concrete finishing.

    ·Select and install various sound insulation materials.

    Automotive Maintenance:

    ·Locate, diagnose, and correctcommon defects in the mechanical, electrical andhydraulic systems of such equipment as: automobiles, motorcycles, trucks (pick-up, high-tower, fork lift, water, andother), construction and maintenance equipment (roadgrader, road roller, road oiler,chippers, and other), tractors and powered tractor, Attachments (flail mowers, frontend loader, scraper, backhoe,earth auger, trencher, and others), and diesel standby generators.

    ·May perform routine automotive services and diagnostics.

    ·May perform any of the duties described in the Maintenance Person II specification or other duties as assigned.

    ·Adhere to safety rules.

    Minimum Education and Experience Required:

    Four years' experience in the carpentry automotive and/or general maintenance trades. Sufficient skill and experience to qualify as a journey-level worker in one of the trades. This may include time spent as an apprentice or in vocational training or a combination of equivalent education and relevant experience.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    ·Maintenance Person III has all of the qualifications described in the Maintenance Person II specification plus the following qualifications:

    ·Full working knowledge procedures and practices in one of the following trades: carpentry, automotive and/or maintenance.

    ·Skilled in the use of the tools, material, and equipment used in these trades.

    ·Demonstrated strong communication skills (both verbal and written).

    ·Basic math and computer skills.

    Certificates and Licenses Required:

    Valid California Class C Noncommercial Driver's License.

    Physical Requirements:

    ·Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class license.

    ·Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all types of outside weather conditions.

    ·Constantly stand, walk ∙ Frequently grasp forcefully, lift up to 20 pounds.

    ·Occasionally kneel, crawl, twist, bend, stoop, squat, climb (ladders and scaffolds), reach above shoulders, use light/fine grasping, lift 21-40 pounds.

    ·Rarely perform seated work, desk-based tasks, use a telephone, write by hand sort/file paperwork, scrub, sweep, chop, mix, lift over 40 pounds.

    ·Visual acuity including color vision.

    Working Conditions:

    ·May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including Holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.

    ·Required to wear appropriate uniform.

    ·May be required to wear PPE.

    ·May be exposed to radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise >80db, allergens, biohazards, chemicals, asbestos.

    ·May be required to work in confined spaces and at heights over 10 feet and may be exposed to hot and cold temperature extremes.

    ·Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all types of outside weather conditions.

    Work Standards:

    ·When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.

    The expected pay for this position is $45.64 (Step 1) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
