Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, inclusive living, and family support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Best Buddies is the largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people worldwide with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our programs empower people with IDD to form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure jobs, improve communication and advocacy skills, and live independently, while also offering support for their families.

Job Title: Summer 2024 Communications Intern

Department: State Operations and Programs

Location: WFH, New Jersey based

Salary: Unpaid Intern / /15/20 hrs/wk as per schedule allows

Position Overview: The Communications Intern provides support to the state office. This position will work closely with state staff to increase awareness of Best Buddies through local marketing and media initiatives and work on special events and other projects as directed.

Job Qualifications - Qualified applicants must have:

  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Basic understanding of social media and familiarity with various social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  • Must be comfortable engaging with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
  • Must be adaptable and able to quickly and effectively develop and balance multiple relationships, and get results from a variety of people
  • Experience with the following platforms is not a requirement but a plus; Canva, Summa, Jira and Hootsuite

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

Marketing
  • Work to create a social media calendar that includes event coverage that aligns with the event communications calendar and meets the needs of each platform's demographics.
  • Schedule and post social media content on the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn through Hootsuite.
  • Monitor traffic to the various social media platforms to drive engagement from the audience.
  • Interview local stakeholders to obtain social media content.
  • Create story content and graphics for engaging stories
  • Update templates and collateral to better reflect our local programs
  • Write articles and stories to help showcase the mission in action
  • Schedules newsletters and blog post content
