The Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 4 will have independent decision-making authority in the management of the simulation laboratory (except for Coordination of Simulation Curriculum and Instruction responsibilities) and would report directly to the Director of Nursing Programs. This position performs the duties of an Instruction and Lab Support Technician 2 in supporting the discipline of the Nursing Simulation Laboratory.

This position is a classified, project employment, full-time, grant funded position and eligible for overtime.

Shift: Mon. - Fri. 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Salary Information: The above salary range reflects the starting step of Range 51 (Step A) for this classified position and includes a 5% King County compensation provision. As a new employed classified employee, based on annual increments, it will take 5.5 years to reach (Step L) and 11.5 years to reach (Step M) on the salary schedule. This does not reflect any contractual changes, legislative mandated salary increases or Cost of Living Increases (COLA's) that may be approved in the future.

Essential Tasks

Reporting to the Director of Nursing Programs, this position will:
Activities

  • Work in coordination with Skills/Simulation Lab Faculty to implement skills labs and simulation clinical experiences according to quarterly schedule;
  • Use weekly/quarterly schedules to verify that all materials and supplies are in stock and ready for use prior to start of the lab;
  • Prepare and set out equipment, materials, and supplies for skills and simulation sessions;
  • Clean, maintain, and put away lab equipment/materials after each activity is concluded/before start of next lab or simulation session;
  • Ensure skills and simulation lab spaces and storage areas are clean and organized;
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Maintain a Central Supply of Equipment and Disposable Supplies
  • Maintain an inventory database of all equipment and supplies in skills and simulation labs;
  • Order disposable supplies to maintain adequate stock levels;
  • Maintain organization of supply areas, including labeling of cabinets, bins, shelves;
  • Provide recommendations for purchase of equipment, supplies, and other materials related to skills labs or simulation.
Equipment Maintenance
  • Perform basic maintenance to keep equipment in working order in skills and simulation lab spaces, including high, medium, and low fidelity manikins;
  • Arrange needed equipment maintenance or repair scheduling with external entities when necessary;
  • Update manikins and control device software with new versions when released by manufacturer;
  • Provide general support and troubleshooting for simulation technologies;
  • Makes recommendations to Program Director if equipment needs to be replaced/upgraded;
  • Liaise with vendors to ensure current and future simulation technology needs are met.
Audio/Visual/Recording Platform
  • Work with vendors for basic maintenance/upgrades of A/V recording devices, as needed for simulation labs in coordination with IT;
  • Operate A/V recording platform used for simulation;
  • Serve as resource for faculty in the use of A/V recording platform;
  • Assure recordings are initiated and removed from simulation recording platform in accordance with simulation program policies.
Simulated Clinical Experiences
  • Works in coordination with Skills/Simulation Lab Faculty to setup for simulated clinical experiences to include staging, manikin presentation, programming, creation of moulage, or other features as outlined in the simulation template;
  • Connect manikin to controller and patient monitor;
  • Operate simulation systems during simulations including recording platform and high-fidelity manikin controller;
  • Reset simulation space and manikin following simulated clinical experience;
  • Remain actively involved with simulation activities, including pre-briefing and debriefing unless excused by the faculty member assigned to the course or simulation coordinator.
Professional Development
  • Remain current in software/hardware associated with skills and simulation lab equipment used for instruction;
  • Provide Professional Development information to supervisor as required for accreditation requirements;
  • Attend nursing department meetings and program events.
Program and College Contributions
  • Act as consult to Respiratory Care Program for matters pertaining to Simulation Lab and Equipment;
  • Gather data as needed to assist with preparation of accreditation materials;
  • Prepare lab spaces for accreditation site visits;
  • Collaborate with faculty for tours and simulation sessions for internal/external groups and/or individuals;
  • Participate in tours and sim sessions that include recruiting events (local high schools), accreditation tours, orientation, college wide activities, and open houses.
Ability to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant health professions principles and practices;
  • Communicate using medical terminology at basic/entry level;
  • Demonstrate safe operation of common medical equipment and associated resources;
  • Deploy excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and patience in dealing with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Work with staff and faculty members in a collaborative manner;
  • Work with others and expand knowledge of discipline related materials;
  • Demonstrate proficiency with a variety of computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with ability to increase skills and knowledge as needed;
  • Prioritize tasks and projects, and multi-task to assist others;
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • Work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Desired ability:
  • Preferred experience with use of Laerdal high-fidelity manikins, Laerdal Scenario Cloud, LEAP software, SimPad; receive training within 6 months of hire if none previously;
  • SimCapture experience preferred;
  • Preferred experience with use of supply inventory software/application (i.e. Asset Tiger, Sortly, RefTab).
Required certifications:
  • Laerdal manikin maintenance onsite course within 6 months of hire;
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist® (CHSOS®) preferred upon hire or must be completed w/in 2 years of hire;
  • Eight hours of simulation related professional development per year of employment (required with new legislation for use of 1:2 simulation for clinical hours).
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree; AND
  • Three years instructional (or laboratory technician) experience;
OR
  • Equivalent education/experience.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift to 30 lbs.;
  • Ability to work on feet for an extended period.
Desired:
  • Education focus in Healthcare or Tech.
