Job Description

Position Overview: Vertex is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented FP&A Analyst to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing financial insights, forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning to support the company's financial objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial modeling skills, a deep understanding of financial statements, and the ability to communicate complex financial data effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning & Analysis:
    • Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
    • Analyze financial performance against key business metrics and document pertinent financial highlights that enable management to track progress against budgets.
    • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages, and presentations for senior management.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Participate in the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasting efforts, collaborating with various department heads and the finance team.
    • Monitor and analyze budget variances, providing insights and recommendations to improve financial performance.
    • Collaborate with operations in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, and in the follow-up of variances thereto.
  • Strategic Planning & Analysis:
    • Participate in the preparation of the strategic plan.
    • Support strategic decision-making by conducting scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis, and what-if analysis.
    • Evaluate the financial impact of potential business opportunities, investments, and strategic initiatives.
  • Reporting & Communication:
    • Prepare and present reports to senior management and operations regarding key performance indicators (ie utilization, conversion rates, win ratios, etc.), variance analysis, and trend analysis.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
    • Communicate complex financial information clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Uphold the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality, ensuring sensitive financial data is handled with discretion and in alignment with company values.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial planning and analysis activities.

Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis, corporate finance, or related roles.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Strong proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools.
    • Extensive Excel experience including Power Query, Pivot Tables, Macros, etc.
    • Knowledge of Power BI, Alteryx, and Deltek Vantagepoint is strongly preferred, but not required
    • Solid understanding of financial statements, budgeting, and forecasting.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills (PowerPoint), with the ability to convey complex financial information to various stakeholders.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
