Job Purpose:Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Financial Reporting Accountant performs key analytical, reporting and reconciliation activities.
Job Summary:MONTHLY ACTIVITY REVIEW & ANALYSIS
- Ensures transactions are made in accordance with federal and state requirements.
- Reviews journal entries and bank and account reconciliations.
- Analyzes all transactions for accurate coding across funds, organizations, accounts and programs.
- Compares transactions and balances against prior years and budget and researches anomalies.
- Communicates and resolves issues.
- Maintains up-to-date procedure documentation.
- Cross-trains with coworkers.
TAX & FINANCE REPORTING
- Prepares and reviews schedules and footnote disclosures for financial statements.
- Prepares Federal 990-T and state Unrelated Business Income Tax return.
- Prepares annual Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Accreditation Continuous Improvement Report.
- Reviews Schedule of Federal Awards and completes online Federal Audit Clearing Housing single audit reporting.
- Reconciles, prepares and processes annual escheated property for various states.
- Prepares special reports, as needed, to support routine and ad hoc financial reporting activities.
- Maintains up-to-date procedure documentation.
- Cross-trains with coworkers.
ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE RECONCILIATIONS
- Reconciles the student accounts receivables system to the general ledger monthly.
- Performs collections analysis and provides reporting and recommendations.
- Maintains up-to-date procedures documentation.
- Cross-trains with coworkers.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 15 semester hours in accounting-related courses.
- Two years of accounting experience.
- Proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing and database software packages.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least three years of accounting experience.
- Related experience in governmental or not-for-profit accounting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary:Knowledge of the principles, theories and best practices of accounting. Ability to analyze and interpret complex accounting data; analyze financial transactions and prepare appropriate journal entries; generate computerized accounting reports and records; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public. Effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
