Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Financial Manager partners with assigned areas of responsibility to perform primarily professional level accounting, budget and fund management and oversight in accordance with applicable federal, state, and organizational policies and procedures. This position will also coach and mentor their direct report staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
The Financial Manager position utilizes professional level analysis and insight in developing, revising, submitting and reporting of unit operating budgets by maintaining a thorough understanding of funding sources and uses. The successful candidate will develop and maintain strong relationships and communication with their areas of responsibility as well as with the central financial services unit.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage the development and maintenance of fund reconciliations
- Provide professional level analysis and insight of unit operating expenditures and revenues with a high degree of attention to detail
- Prepare and present financial activity summaries\reports
- Provide guidance and insight for assigned area(s) of responsibility on financial and budget management best practices and appropriate policy standards
- Review Payroll and Accounting requests for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with organizational and applicable governing-body standards
- Prepare or Approve journal entries
- Manage approval of revenue and expense activity
- Oversee and manage all aspects of direct reports' workloads, Identifying and communicating needs, initiation and management of direct report performance evaluations, and providing leadership, support, and guidance on an on-going basis to direct reports
- Develop a culture that emphasizes strong customer services skills, advocates for continuous process improvement, and strives for best business practices
- Exhibit excellent customer service and provide leadership, support and encouragement to team to ensure the team delivers the highest standard of teamwork and customer service with respect to all areas of organizational interaction
- Serve as backup for Account Technician
- Using UND's recruiting software, enter and complete necessary steps for assigned areas, including job posting, requesting background checks, preparing job offer documents, walking supervisors through the hiring process and keeping candidates abreast of steps they need to complete during the process

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a business-related field
- Five years of experience in a professional accounting position, professional financial or budget management position
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and in particular, advanced knowledge of data analysis functions of Excel with ability to generate a summary of the data
- Experience advising professionals and/or organizations on financial and business decisions
- Successful completion of criminal history records check

Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory experience
- MBA or CPA preferred
- Experience with PeopleSoft Finance and HRMS (Human Resources/Payroll) modules
- Experience with accounts payable system
- Knowledge of UND policies and procedures
