American Battery Solutions has a full-time opening for an Electrical Systems Engineer.

Job Summary:

The Electrical Systems Engineer is responsible for leading the functional engineering team on battery electrical systems architecture from a systems perspective. This position will apply an interdisciplinary approach to the engineering of battery systems and components, what is required of their design, and manage their realization. They will define and document overall electrical architecture at the system level and oversee verification of the electrical sub-system. This also includes defining electrical system requirements early in the development cycle, identifying top technical risks, and championing the design synthesis and concept verification in the context of the complete battery system. This position will work closely with the engineering design team, prototype engineering team, manufacturing teams, key suppliers, validation/testing team, customers, program managers, and business development.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as the technical lead between customers and design engineers on electrical systems.
  • Develop external interface specification for all electrical interfaces to the vehicle.
  • Develop system electrical architecture, system schematics, and internal interfaces.
  • Lead electrical system integration meetings and collaborate cross-functionally with other teams.
  • Ensure electrical components selected by design engineering meet system requirements.
  • Represent the electrical system functions on the system DFMEA and track top risks and known electrical issues.
  • Develop electrical system verification test plan and review design validation plan.
  • Support the Lead Systems engineer on project level electrical system activities.
  • Perform system integration and verification for electrical system development and verification.
  • Support all prototype system builds, DV and PV builds along with production builds.
  • Develop system inspection requirements for end of line testing and support quality engineers.
  • Support hardware engineering analysis, controls, WCCA, etc.
  • Support troubleshooting of any issues with electrical systems.
  • Support other key functional engineering groups with related tasks (ME, EE, SW, BMS).
  • Be the expert at the manufacturing plant for all electrical system issues that need resolved.
  • Communicate activities and status to the rest of the team.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.

Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's of Science in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree.
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in automotive or similar electrical systems; wiring, controls, CANoe, connectors.
  • Adept in data processing and statistical analysis.
  • Broad engineering knowledge outside electrical (mechanical, software, industrial, etc..).
  • Hands-on lab/shop skills (multimeter, oscilloscope, CANoe, etc.).
  • Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM/DFA, and DVP&R.
  • Experience in a requirement engineering management tool and systems engineering is preferred.
  • Effective communicator, capable of concisely presenting highly technical test data to internal and external customers, as well as effectively communicating with suppliers.
  • Experienced with the handling of high voltage lithium-ion battery systems.
  • Educated on common automotive & industry test certifications.
  • Familiar with the product design process.
  • Self-motivated problem solver who pays attention to the fine details.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen.
  • May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about in industrial environments, and on uneven terrain.
  • Works in a temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions, and in industrial environments.
  • The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud.
  • Must be able to manipulate equipment for calibration and modification.
