The primary purpose of the position is to plan, budget, organize, develop and direct the overall clinical services for Assisted Living and Memory Support in accordance with current Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern the facility to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times in accordance with the Budget and Operation Plans Of the organization. Responsible for ensuring that an adequate level of services is provided to each resident, documented appropriately and regularly evaluated.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently registered with the State Board of Examiners for Registered Nurses in the state of Florida, must have a BA, BS or BSN or advanced degree.
  • Minimum of three (3) years administrative and supervisory experience in a long-term health care or other nursing care facility.
  • Verbal and writing abilities necessary to communicate and work effectively with various levels of staff, residents, family members and the public, and representatives of the various regulatory agencies, and for required written documentation or reports.
  • Numerical ability necessary to make various computations in planning departmental objectives, keeping work records and schedules, preparing budgets, requisitioning supplies, and monitoring inventory control.
  • Ability to apply principles of personnel administration to interviewing, selection and supervision of employees, and in monitoring department activities.
  • Able to evaluate reports, programs, systems, and other data against both judgmental and verifiable criteria.
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during a staff shortage or emergency situation.
  • Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.

  • Essential Functions:

    Administer Personnel Functions:
    • Ensure all Clinical type services, coordinates activities Of AL nursing unit, promotes and maintains harmonious relationships among nursing personnel and with medical staff, residents and the public.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and approves established wage changes.
    • Determine the number of professional and non-professional staff necessary to meet the nursing care needs of the residents.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain work routines and special staffing schedules, maintains an established staffing schedule, not exceeding budgeted hours per pay period for the department.
    • Plan, direct, and evaluate orientation and in-service training programs for the professional and non-professional staff.
    • Schedule, present and record regular department meetings.
    • Review timecards verifying hours worked and approves overtime.
    • Attend AL department huddles, meetings, all-staff meetings, and in-service programs as scheduled.
    • Represents the department on various committees as requested by the AL Administrator/Director of Clinical Administrator.
    • Instruct staff on various federal, state and facility's regulations, policies and procedures, and monitors.
    • Participate in Senior Executive Director-approved ongoing educational programs, Including C.O.R,E.
    • Accept responsibility for the AL department in the absence of the AL Administrator.

      Clinical Responsibilities:
      • Develop, review, and revise standards, guidelines, and forms and submits revisions or new policies/forms for approval and required recording of documents.
      • Coordinate the completion of the admission, discharge, and evaluation materials and process for all Ensure appropriate documentation including functional assessments.
      • Ensure that all resident rights and responsibilities are protected and enforced.
      • Establish and maintain a close liaison with residents and families, promote an environment that allows residents to function as independently as possible.
      • Collaborate with the Medical Director and other professional service providers.
      • Coordinate with appropriate department directors and supervisors for services provided to the residents.
      • Maintain all documentation required by state agencies.
      • Comply with state and federal requirements and regulations.
      • Maintain current knowledge for scope of practice for self and support staff.
      • See opportunities for personal and professional growth, related to clinical standards of practice, gerontology, rehabilitation, organization, management, regulatory agencies, infection control, and interpersonal skills.
      • Prepare preliminary departmental Operating Budget.
      • Review, investigate and resolve customer grievances in cooperation with the Nursing Home Administrator/Executive Director.
      • Participate in presentations to appropriate community organizations and individuals to meet community established occupancy goals. promote a positive image.
      • Maintain and dispose of discontinued controlled substances per state pharmacy regulations.
      • Organize and administer the delivery of nursing services and related ancillary services.
      • Develop implement and maintain Nursing Service Objectives, philosophy and standards of nursing practice and policies and procedures.
      • Analyze and evaluate nursing care and related ancillary and therapeutic services rendered to improve quality of patient care and to plan the best utilization of staff time and activities.
      • Work toward the resolution of resident and family concerns; advises AL Administrator of any special problems relating to care delivery.
      • Develop, monitor, and maintain required and appropriate documentation on the residents' medical records to include a multi-disciplinary plan of care.
      • Collaborate and consult with the residents' attending physicians, Medical Director and outside consultants.
      • Make daily patient rounds to assess quality of care being delivered.
      • Assist with approved research projects related to improving nursing care.
      • Review level-of-care determinations with the staff nurses.
      • Serve as a member of the Admissions Committee in the selection of prospective residents.
      • Function as a resource person to the nursing staff relative to accepted standards of nursing practice.
      • Maintain awareness of community resources and health care agencies.
      • Assume responsibility for Medical Evaluation studies where they are required by federal regulations.
      • Attend and assist with Utilization Review Committee (where applicable), Infection Control Committee, Pharmaceutical Services Committee, and any other type of medical review committee utilized by the facility.
      • Responsible for all duties relating to Quality Assurance.
      • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor within scope of job position.
      Management:
      • Provides supervision to AL Certified Nursing Aides and Charge Nurses to assure delivery of consistently high quality care to residents. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
      • Supervises nursing department associates, interviews, hires, evaluates and educates new associates.
      • Manages resources effectively and economically.
      • Monitors and evaluates the standards of care and facilitates remedial action when necessary.
      • Assures resident care is delivered in accordance with established policies and protocols.
      • Assures the safe custody and administration of drugs in accordance with established procedures and laws.
      • Maintains effective communication with other departments
      • Attends relevant departmental and community meetings as requested.
        • Provides internal shift coverage in the event of unplanned absence.

        Education and Development:
        • Actively facilitates a progressive learning environment for all department associates.
        • Participates in current programs, campaigns and classes.
        • Conducts and participates in competency testing.
        • Conducts or participates in performance reviews.
        • Maintains personal and professional development in accordance with state guidelines.
        • Knows and implements safe practices.
        • Participates in all required safety drills, monitors participation of all department associates.
