Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Executive Director of Development and Engagement, School of Nursing, the Director of Development plays an integral role in the philanthropic and outreach efforts of the IU School of Nursing Bloomington, Columbus, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis Campuses.
  • In concert with the Executive Director of Development and Engagement, the Director of Development carries out the strategic direction for a coordinated development program that includes leadership, major, and planned gifts with emphasis on major gift fundraising.
  • Collaborates closely with the school's internal resources and IU Foundation services to ensure a comprehensive and donor-centered advancement program.
  • Responsible for identification of potential leadership, major, planned and/or gifts donors, cultivation of relationships, and execution of fundraising strategy for leadership and major gifts prospects.
  • Cultivates relationships with lifelong or long-term donors to secure end-of-life legacy bequests to various fundraising needs at the School of Nursing and secures large-sum donations for various campaigns on a recurring or 1-time basis.
  • Works with the Executive Director of Development and Engagement, the Director of Development will maximize private, charitable support for the school and generate the momentum to reach the philanthropic and programmatic goals for the school and its constituents. and drives innovation and excellence within the areas of leadership, major, and planned giving.
General Responsibilities
  • Identifies new prospects, cultivates relationships, and manages a portfolio and/or region of donors building a pipeline for solicitation.
  • Executes plans and designs campaigns to sustain and increase donations.
  • Collaborates with development colleagues university-wide to align prospects/donors' interests with university funding needs and opportunities.
  • Maintains meaningful and consistent contact with potential donors to communicate university goals and solicit their support.
  • Introduces campus/school fundraisers to appropriate gift prospects for cultivation.
  • Documents communications, analyzes data, evaluates success and makes recommendations for change to campaign strategy.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years experience in fundraising/development, sales, communications, public relations, a higher education foundation, or related field

Preferred
  • Experience related to successfully executing fundraising campaigns including working with organization leadership and preparing gift proposals
  • Success developing authentic relationships with a wide array of internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of fundraising with a general knowledge of marketing, and communications as well as demonstrated skills in leadership, major, and planned gift solicitation and experience with gift prospect management systems
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and/or manage complex and competing priorities
  • Experience delegating to support staff and interacting with academic and administrative leaders
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism
  • Possess an ability to work comfortably within an academic environment that possesses many competing interests, priorities, and opinions
  • An understanding of the importance of, and demonstrated success in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion among staff, donors and volunteers
  • Commitment to fostering collaboration across advancement disciplines
  • Apply critical thinking to analyze and interpret information and/or data

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills (able to tailor communications to multiple audiences such as school leadership and major donors). Precision, timeliness, clarity, and accuracy in written communication are vital

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

This is a core position and could be based on the Bloomington, or Indianapolis campus.

Advertised Salary

Salary Range: $70,000 - $75,000
