Position Summary:

The Director of Admissions and Recruitment for the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program (BBSP) at the UNC School of Medicine (SOM) leads the design and execution of sophisticated recruitment strategies for approximately 15 PhD programs across multiple schools within the university. This position demands advanced expertise in university-wide policies, state and federal regulations, NIH reporting, and cutting-edge data systems to drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement. The role requires comprehensive oversight of the recruitment pipeline, from initial outreach to final admissions, ensuring alignment with institutional objectives and diversity goals.

The Director is expected to possess a high level of strategic foresight, organizational leadership, and policy knowledge, including the capacity to analyze complex admissions data, optimize processes, and mentor staff in advanced recruitment techniques. The role reports directly to both the Director of BBSP and the Associate Dean of Graduate Education, reflecting its critical importance within the Office of Graduate Education (OGE).

Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. As such, this position's work location is designated as Hybrid. This position is expected to be hybrid or fully on-site with at least 2-3 days of work per week on campus. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to the development or administration of academic standards or curricula, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience in recruitment and admissions within higher education, with a focus on graduate-level programs. Knowledge of federal, state, and University regulations with recruitment and evaluation of candidates for graduate-level programs.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Project management experience or certification. Proven experience leading the entire admissions lifecycle for high-volume programs, preferably involving STEM disciplines.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
