The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) at the University of Iowa is seeking a dedicated Department Administrator. This role, partnering with the Department Chair, is pivotal in ensuring the effective operations of our nationally ranked department and supporting our mission to advance the understanding and treatment of communication, hearing, and related disorders and train the next generation of professionals in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Management: Oversee administrative functions, improve workflows, manage facilities and equipment, generate reports to facilitate data-driven decision-making, and ensure efficient course management including faculty instructional effort deployment.
  • Human Resources: Partnering with the department's HR Representative, implement HR policies, supervise staff, and support faculty processes, including searches, compliance, and performance reviews. Evaluate staffing structure to ensure alignment with departmental needs and workload.
  • Financial Oversight: Assist in developing budgets for a large and complex academic department, monitor expenditures, and manage grant and state fund accounts.
  • Strategic Planning: Facilitate and oversee strategic planning efforts, incorporating budget, capital equipment, program funding, academic, administrative and research support services, faculty, research and administrative spaces needs, program goals, outreach and recruitment, and compliance.
  • Communication: Facilitate communication within the department and with external partners and oversee marketing, outreach, and student recruitment efforts.

Education Required:
  • Master's degree in business administration, higher education administration, healthcare administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying academic policies and procedures and supporting a large, complex administrative office.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, motivating, evaluating, and rewarding personnel, including experience supervising administrative staff.
  • Record of demonstrating a high level of integrity, dependability, discretion, and confidentiality in conducting job responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to address complex and sensitive administrative matters with diplomacy and effectiveness.
  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to utilize tools, techniques, and processes for gathering, reporting, and disseminating data using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.); extensive experience using Zoom or other remote applications for remote collaboration.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication; demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and build strong professional working relationships with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience managing multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, using effective judgement to prioritize work and resource allocation and navigate conflicting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working in a clinical setting.
  • Working experience in change management techniques for project execution.
