The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology leadership and support to the Georgia Institute of Technology, working in partnership with academic and business units to meet the unique needs of a leading research university. OIT serves as the primary source of enterprise-wide information technology and telecommunications services in support of students, faculty, staff, and researchers.
Job Summary
Responsible for participating in the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of an enterprise-wide data governance framework. Maintain a focus on data identification, transparency, quality, and protection of sensitive elements through the development of policies, standards, principles, processes, resources, and related tools. Actively participate in both data governance and data management activities, while collaborating with efforts that cross other data-focused programs (e.g., cybersecurity, privacy, and data services). This position will interact on a regular basis with: Staff and leaders (functional and technical). This position typically will advise and counsel: Unit managers and directors. This position will supervise: N/A.
ResponsibilitiesJob Duty 1 -
Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of a data management platform. Assist roles in the data governance structure with the creation and maintenance of records to catalog digital assets, such as: data domains, systems/business applications, business glossary/data dictionary, and mapping between systems. Design workflows, dashboards, and customer interaction points with the platform.
Job Duty 2 -
Contribute to the data governance program's education and training capabilities, including videos, documentation, and job aids. Create content for the data governance website, portal, and communication channels.
Job Duty 3 -
Coordinate and participate in the data governance structure and framework. Partner with other governing bodies as needed.
Job Duty 4 -
Develop, review, and maintain data governance and management policies, guidelines, procedures, and other resources. Create and manage documentation efforts of the program and testing opportunities of new or existing platforms.
Job Duty 5 -
Contribute to the creation of data quality controls, partnering with functional data stewards, warehouse architects, and business intelligence analysts to formulate rules to identify and alert when key enterprise data elements are of low quality.
Job Duty 6 -
Act as a liaison and support data governance and management efforts led by groups external to the data governance team, including data lifecycle (i.e., records management), access lifecycle (e.g., request, fulfillment, audit), and regulatory compliance (e.g., FERPA). Collaborate with partners, including cybersecurity, privacy, enterprise risk management, and data services teams.
Job Duty 7 -
Lead data governance and management meetings, adapting to audiences across both functional and technical teams and with varying degrees of knowledge about the program. Create presentations that effectively and succinctly communicate and inform.
Job Duty 8 -
Manage projects, both technical and functional in nature. Discover and create opportunities to improve the components of the data governance program.
Job Duty 9 -
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements
Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Other Required Qualifications
Occasional night and weekend work may be required.
Required Experience
Two to three years job-related experience.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Preferred Experience
Two to three years of progressive, direct-related experience as an analyst in data governance, data management, business, technology, or similar area of focus.
Preferred Abilities:
· Strong ability to independently manage workload, set personal milestones, and chart a path to achieve goals with minimal supervision.
· Strong ability to communicate topics, both in written and verbal form, clearly and effectively to a diverse range of audiences, tailoring the message to fit the understanding of each group.
· Strong ability to maintain and update existing processes, documentation, and knowledge content to ensure relevance and accuracy, adapting to changes resulting from updates made by the team or the software vendor.
· Strong ability to develop and implement efficient and scalable business processes, including workflow design, documentation, and optimization, to support data governance initiatives and organizational objectives.
Preferred Knowledge:
· Experience in utilizing the OneTrust platform for data governance areas of focus; ability to administer the platform including configuration, customization.

ABILITIES
Strong ability to manage and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population, adapt to change, make important decisions under pressure, communicate complex technical subjects to non-technical audiences, and effectively manage/direct team.
KNOWLEDGE
Working knowledge in the application of data governance and management concepts, principles, and leading practices; knowledge of regulatory compliance; awareness of principles in cybersecurity, privacy, and enterprise risk management. Experience working in a higher education environment and performing data management functions at an enterprise level.
SKILLS
Proficient in written and verbal communication, analytical thinking, customer service, organization, problem-solving, and strong attention to detail; proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
