Job Description Summary

Area owner of the cutter deck and the line 4 peeling and cutting room and its operation, performing a variety of tasks in a safe manner that ensures products are food safe and meet quality standards. Operates, assembles, and adjusts equipment in the work area as needed by the plant operating schedule working with Plant Leadership.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Cutter Deck Operator will be the area owner of the Line 1 and 2 cutter deck operations including shorts and slivers and waste systems and the Line 4 peeling and cutting area operations including the line 4 product collection area and will complete the duties described below in addition to other duties as assigned by Leadership.

  • Working collectively with the line team, reviews the production schedule for assigned shift and prepares for any scheduled changes in the process line
  • Makes needed adjustments to all cutting systems according to line schedules and quality needs that support line requirements
  • Disassemble and assemble mechanical cutters to support cut changes and cut quality
  • Teardown and rebuild Lamb Gun knife blocks to support cut changes and cut quality
  • Changes water knife tubes
  • Examines the condition of blades and follows procedures for proper disposal per company policy
  • Performs tests of the product to ensure that length and cut size, align to finished quality targets. Prepares and maintains reports showing length checks and dimension.
  • Adjusts and maintains process equipment settings that impact the cutting systems performance and quality outcomes.
  • Operates the Line 4 peeling and finishing equipment and notifies maintenance of any mechanical issues.
  • Maintains water quality in water systems that support the cutter deck.
  • Participates in the AMD process where they will identify and submit defect cards for mechanical defects and performs adjustments of equipment as needed to maintain proper operational efficiency
  • Responsible for maintaining proper sanitation of the main line cutter deck area and line 4 peel and cutting rooms as needed.
  • Cleans and sanitizes processing equipment during scheduled shutdown, defrost and weekend cleanup, as needed. Understands the uses of certain chemicals for clean-up and sanitation.
  • Maintains open communication with maintenance, sanitation, production personnel, and Leadership, regarding all issues related to safety, quality, and production.

Safety: Must have a complete knowledge and understanding of the plant safety rules, including but not limited to, lockout-tagout policy and procedure, chemical hazards, and the hearing conservation program. Must have good personal hygiene and be able to practice safe work habits.

Education and/or Experience: No prior experience or training required. On the job training to be completed and validated in accordance with skills training and evaluations.

Communication Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate in English commensurate with the requirements of the position including reading and writing.

Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percents.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions.

Skills and abilities: Ability to input and retrieve data using a computer terminal

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate's work location, job duties, experience and expertise. A reasonable hourly estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $21.63
