Job Description:
Come join the team at Cornhusker State Industries (CSI)! We provide workforce training and development to nearly 500 incarcerated men and women. CSI is a financially self-supported program of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS). We are looking for a candidate who is versed in manufacturing, has the ability to effectively supervise, and can meet deadlines. Under general supervision, manages and supervises all warehouse operations and the quality assurance program for all incoming raw material and finished products within Correction Industries.

DUTIES:
Direct and coordinate activities in multiple production shops throughout the state to meet delivery deadlines. This position works within the secure facilities and has multiple locations reporting to them, effectively managing workers remotely or travel to other sites may be necessary. Plan, establish and communicate work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet goals. Provide internal and external customers with feedback or updates as needed. Provide input for development of annual shop operating budgets. Enforce safety and sanitation regulations. Supervise staff in multiple production shops (to include inmate workers) including, but not limited to, hiring, training, discipline, performance evaluation, time entry and termination. Develop, schedule and track preventative maintenance tasks. Gather and review data to measure productivity, develop and implement changes to improve productivity and cut costs as needed. Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations/activities within or between departments. Coordinate with custody staff to ensure shop operations follow appropriate security procedures and that the facility can support the movement of people and goods required for daily shop operations. Ensure quality control. Interpret specifications, engineering drawings, job orders and agency policies/procedures for staff. Supervise shops as needed to cover Shop Operator absences. Prepare routine and special production reports as required. Manage the movement of goods into and out of production shops.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in business, manufacturing or related field plus 2-3 years' experience in manufacturing/production shop management & quality control OR 5-7 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with staff supervision, Enterprise One and Microsoft programs.

Other: Valid driver's license required. Must obtain Class B CDL within 90 days of hire.* Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods and coordination of people and resources, quality control, safety and sanitation regulations, agency regulations, raw materials, machinery and equipment used in production of goods; computer applications (primarily, MS office and Oracle ERP) used.

Skill in: active listening, management of personnel resources, time management, judgment and decision making, assessing performance, effectively/accurately conveying information to others, critical thinking, coordination, problem identification and resolution, coaching and developing skills in others. organizing & coordinating activities; analyzing and evaluating information; reasoning.
