Position Overview:

The Control Systems Specialist supports and develops Motiva's Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex's process control systems that increase unit reliability, stabilize operations, minimize product quality incidents, improve yields, and increase production capacity. This role provides control strategy technical assurance and is responsible for base layer application performance on Digital Control Systems (DCS).

Responsibilities:

  • Support project, modifications, and ongoing operation needs to ensure run and maintain operational objectives.
  • Implement control strategies for new plant construction, major revamps and instrumentation projects.
  • Support Base Layer Control improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain system integrity by cleaning up databases as new applications are developed in the control system.
  • Provide communication on and develop solutions for control system issues.
  • Provide support for Honeywell Experion, and Delta V configuration graphic standards.
  • Provide technical support for alarm and event management applications (Dynamo, User Alerts, etc.) and support process and system alarm investigations with area Control Systems Engineers to ensure overall system health.
  • Provide the projects team with control systems technical support concerning graphics standards and ESP data.
  • Provide technical assurance on control strategy design in accordance with Motiva and industry standards.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering paired with 5+ years of experience working in control systems OR 10+ years of experience working in control systems in lieu of degree
  • Strong background in base layer control applications, control algorithms, and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of Honeywell Experion and TDC 3000 process control systems
  • Working knowledge of alarm management systems
  • Awareness of PI vision visualization and base layer monitoring tools

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
