Ranked as the 8th best program in special education by U.S. News and World Report (2024), the department is committed to the production and dissemination of new knowledge in special education across the lifespan through excellence in research, teaching, service, and public engagement. Faculty and graduate students in the Department work in diverse educational and community settings, and prepare educational professionals at the undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and post-doctoral levels. Our faculty also provide leadership in national organizations and serve on editorial boards of highly-ranked journals. Current faculty research is funded with more than 16 million in federal, state, and private dollars, and promotes successful early childhood, school, and life outcomes for individuals with disabilities.

Position : We seek a full-time, 9-month specialized faculty member appointed as a Lecturer. This is a promotion-accruing non-tenure track position, renewable contingent upon performance reviews.

Position Description: In the Department of Special Education, specialized faculty with the title of Lecturer are engaged primarily in providing classroom instruction, although they may have ancillary service or administrative duties. These faculty members typically have an apportionment of 80% teaching and 20% service, which includes a teaching load of 4 courses per semester (8 per year). We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach, in both online and face-to-face formats, a wide range of undergraduate and graduate special education courses (PreK-High School).

Required Qualifications

  • A doctorate in Special Education or a related field
  • Successful record of college teaching
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to engaging and effectively collaborating with faculty, staff, and students
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching online and face-to-face courses
  • K-12 teaching experience
  • Experience addressing and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, teaching, service, and/or public engagement
  • Evidence of professional service
Salary and Starting Date: The budgeted salary range for the position is $68,000 to $75,000 for a 9-month service basis. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs. The proposed starting date is August 16, 2025.
