Chief Product Officer (CPO)

Location: Hybrid/Remote. The successful candidate can work on a Hybrid/Remote basis reporting into our physical office in Boston 2 days a week

You'll be instrumental in establishing industry-leading product management practices, continue our efforts in building and mentoring a world-class product team, and introducing cutting-edge KPIs and metrics that ensure our products contribute strongly to our bottom line. What are you responsible for?

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and communicate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with the company's goals and objectives
  • Ensure the product portfolio satisfies customers' needs to optimize today's life sciences R&D processes while embracing opportunities presented by cutting-edge scientific research and methodologies, and regulatory authorities willing to embrace change
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, including the CEO and other executives, to define company-wide product goals, priorities, and roadmaps.
Science & Technology Innovation:
  • Leverage your scientific experience and background to set vision and innovation for new products
  • Ensure that the company is regularly engaged with customers, industry organizations, and regulatory authorities, building upon the company's track record for thought leadership in technology application to research and development practices
  • Foster a culture of excellence and continuous innovation.
Product Development and Management:
  • Instem utilizes a "Product Trio" framework of continuous discovery of customers' needs. It will be important for you to have buy-in to this methodology
  • Oversee the PM team to develop these learnings into clear user stories and requirements to be executable by development and maintained by IT operations
  • Timely release products of products to market
  • Monitoring and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure product performance, identify areas for improvement, and inform decision-making
Market Analysis and Competitive Intelligence:
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to understand market trends, customer needs, and the competitive landscape.
  • Identify new market opportunities and ensure the company remains a leader in its industry.
  • Utilize scientific data and research to anticipate market shifts and emerging trends.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Manage and lead a high-performing product management team that can work symbiotically with the development group
  • Foster a learning culture that promotes converting local discoveries into global opportunities.
  • Ensure information is documented and easily accessible to everyone throughout the organization to reduce time searching for information and increase time analyzing it.
Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Engage with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, and internal teams, to gather feedback and ensure the product strategy aligns with business needs
  • Serve as a key spokesperson for the product vision, strategy, and capability, both internally and externally
  • Communicate scientific insights and data to stakeholders to support product strategies and decisions.
Financial Oversight:
  • Manage the product budget and ensure financial objectives of ARR growth and EBITDA margin expansion are met
  • Develop business cases for new product initiatives, including financial projections and ROI analysis
  • Utilize well-researched data to support financial planning and investment decisions.
Performance Measurement
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for product success
  • Continuously assess product performance and implement improvements based on data-driven insights and feedback.
  • Integrate science-based metrics and research findings into performance assessments.
  • Adherence to our Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure all work is handled securely, professionally and diligently.
Skills You'll Need:
  • MSc or equivalent in Life Sciences (PhD preferred) or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience and proven track record in life sciences research and development and technology product management leadership
  • Ability to oversee a portfolio of products and motivate a team of PMs to drive insights and creativity
  • Extensive experience in developing and managing technology products within the life sciences domain, such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, pre-clinical, and clinical drug development
  • Strong understanding of non-clinical and clinical regulatory requirements for life sciences products
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and innovations in life sciences, including leveraging data, modelling and simulation, and biotechnology advancements.
