The Director of Aircraft Maintenance leads the aircraft maintenance department, ensuring the proper maintenance, repair, and safety of all aircraft within the organization's fleet. The director supervises and guides the maintenance team, coordinates with the aviation operations department, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. This role plays a key part in optimizing the efficiency and reliability of the aircraft fleet while upholding the highest safety standards.

This position is based in Rapid City, SD.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the aircraft maintenance department, providing leadership and guidance to maintenance teams.
  • Collaborate with aviation operations manager and chief pilot on fleet maintenance status.
  • Review and approve maintenance records, logs, and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams and external vendors to secure parts and materials as needed.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the maintenance department to support the organization's operational goals.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in aircraft maintenance.
  • Track aircraft maintenance status in Zulu logs and communicate changes and other pertinent information to the chief pilot and other aviation managers to facilitate project planning.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance staff, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure the maintenance team has the information and tools needed to perform work effectively and efficiently.
  • Identify areas for improvement in maintenance operations and suggest innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate records of flight operations, team qualifications, training, and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards (e.g., FAA, EASA, etc.).
  • Conduct regular safety audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.
  • Investigate maintenance-related incidents and implement corrective measures as necessary.
  • Contribute to the development and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure efficient and safe flight operations.

Job Requirements:
  • Authorized to work in the United States, without restrictions.
  • High School Diploma and two years of college/technical training or equivalent experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in aviation maintenance, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in aircraft maintenance, with a track record of increasing responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of FAA regulations and industry standards
  • Experience managing the FAA PART 91 aircraft maintenance department.
  • Excellent leadership, management, and organizational skills.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification is required.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Possess a high level of knowledge and capability in managing Part 91 aviation business
  • Have detailed knowledge of HSSE and ISO requirements and procedures as they relate to aviation maintenance.
