Job Description

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is responsible for the design, implementation, oversight, and alignment of the business operations for the College of Law, which has nearly 600 professional students. The CAO is a strategic business position in the College of Law. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and directing the college's financial, facilities, operational, analytical functions, and policies and advising and counseling on and assisting in executing and implementing the college's strategic, marketing, communications, and technology initiatives, decisions, and processes. Reporting to the Dean, this is a highly visible and high-impact position that helps shape the strategic direction of the College in partnership with the Dean. The CAO oversees change management efforts in a manner aligned with the College's entrepreneurial culture while simultaneously keeping a strong focus on sustainability and financial strength.

The CAO serves as the College's senior fiscal officer and develops both short and long-range budget structures, plans, and goals. The CAO has oversight over a College budget of nearly $40 million, advising the Dean on fiscal matters and ensuring proper accounting, transactions, and balancing of the budget.

As a member of the senior leadership team, the CAO, in close consultation with the Dean, designs administrative policies and procedures and ensures their implementation and compliance. The CAO also manages a Fiscal Officer responsible for advising all staff who enter or own fiscal policies within their units. Operational duties are both strategic and on-the-ground. The CAO serves as the College's facilities manager, which includes day-to-day building operations, space planning, space and access management, and strategic planning on the renovation or future construction of space at the Law School. The CAO provides direction to the Building Coordinator and works with the Assistant Dean of the Library to ensure all spaces within Drinko Hall are operational. The CAO also manages a team of student workers who service the lobby front desk, Career Services desk, Deans' Suite entrance, and other various areas around the Drinko Hall.

The CAO functions as the manager of operations by overseeing a team of Administrative Assistants (presently four employees) who assist faculty members and multiple departments within the college with core administrative support to all aspects of the college, including for Career Development, Advancement, Admissions, and faculty. These duties include grading, scheduling, class expenditures, travel, reimbursements, and event planning and programming. (Please note that management of the Administrative Assistant team is subject to change.) The CAO has discretion to make decisions on behalf of the Dean and the College's executive leadership, including on building operations, security, purchasing/acquisitions and financial transactions, and on budgetary matters, including for departments within the college.

Additionally, the CAO reviews operational policies and procedures within each unit in the college and provides direction on process improvement to help enhance and create efficiencies in day-to-day activities. The CAO partners with the College's HR Business Partner and Consultant on compliance with University and internal HR policies and alignment with the organization's strategy, reinforcing the culture and values established by the Dean.

As an analytical and strategic advisor to the Dean, the CAO is responsible for compiling data for the college's accrediting and ranking agencies. Through statistical models, the CAO also provides data-backed recommendations for admissions, student success, salary comparison data, and future financial investment opportunities.
