BASIC FUNCTION

Responsible for air & ocean spend globally, at a corporate level, for all business units. Accountable for key supplier selection decisions within category, working closely with the supply chain & operations teams globally. Prepares & leads RFPs and evaluates supplier proposals to determine the best overall solution based upon total cost of ownership. Creates and drives cost savings initiatives within the air & ocean categories. Responsible for contractual negotiations within category. Relies on extensive industry knowledge, experience, and judgment to plan and accomplish goals for cost savings, supply risk mitigation, and transportation service levels. Responsible for setting performance objectives and overall category strategy within category.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support strategic project execution
    • Strategize and manage the approach to agreement renewals, RFPs, and supplier engagements
    • Cross-functional RFx development, roll-out, and evaluation; including supplier selection, proposal analysis, and negotiation
    • Maintain visibility to market trends to ensure effective and efficient spending at all times
    • Identify contractual needs and establish agreements that accommodate, while owning the commercial aspects of the contracting process
    • Support (and contribute to) internal stakeholder timelines and budgets
    • Act as the primary relationship owner with all ocean and air transportation providers globally

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Business/Technology
  • Contract Proficiency
    • Strong understanding of business and legal interpretations of contract T&Cs
    • Proficient in working with Domestic & International Law
    • Proven ability to manage complex / sophisticated commercial agreements
    • Comfortable operating with a large degree of independence on contract negotiations

    • Understanding potential differing needs between Internal & External customers.
    • Consistently exceed customer expectations by dealing with internal complexities across multiple business units in a manner invisible to customers
    • Daily collaboration with supply chain, operations, customer service, sales, etc. teams to ensure proper support and communication with these stakeholders
  • Negotiation
    • Capable of creating pre-negotiation strategy
    • Experienced in negotiating/managing transportation spend.
    • Ability to negotiate with varying degrees of leverage, utilize advanced financial techniques, and build market comparable cost analysis using industry trends and benchmarks
    • Skilled in Analysis of cost structures related to transportation and logistics
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Solution-oriented, takes ownership in the resolution of recurring problems
    • Skilled in implementing continuous improvement opportunities within the supply base
    • Actively support change opportunities to maximize personal, departmental, and/or company performance.

  • Category Expertise
    • Knowledge working with or for ocean steamship lines, freight forwarders, or BCOs, as well as a general understanding of the global ocean network and common trade routes for FCL & LCL
    • Knowledge working with or for air freight forwarders or BCOs
    • General understanding of transportation market conditions, drivers of capacity and rate fluctuations, and overall market trends
    • Experience in global logistics and/or transportation
    • History of using transportation management systems
    • Familiarity with customs border protection, and at a minimum entry level knowledge of rules and regulations to clear customs

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree Business, Procurement, Supply Chain, Operations, or related subject.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience with 3 years of transportation experience
  • Significant experience leading negotiations and contract management with agencies of all sizes
  • Experience utilizing supplier management, contract management systems, or transportation management systems
  • Proficient Microsoft office skills

The Salary range for this position is $98,900.00-$125,600.00.The specific Salary rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location.
