Job Title:Care Senior SpecialistDepartment:Engineering | Community, Access, Retention and Empowerment Office

The CARE Senior Specialist for Retention and Academic Success (RAS) plays a pivotal role within the Community, Access, Retention and Empowerment (CARE) team, reporting directly to the Director for Student Academic Success. Collaborating closely with fellow members of the CARE team, as well as various stakeholders across Undergraduate Education & Student Support and other University Offices, the RAS spearheads comprehensive strategies for enhancing undergraduate student retention and fostering academic success.

This multifaceted role entails strategic planning and execution across all facets of student support, from program development and implementation to fostering experiential learning opportunities with industry partners to support workforce development initiatives, actively cultivates opportunities for students to engage in research activities with faculty members to broaden participation in STEM and refining academic curriculum and delivery methods. With a focus on second-year engineering and pre-major students, the RAS crafts and oversees high-quality, financially sustainable initiatives tailored to their needs.

In addition to program management, the RAS assumes responsibility for personnel and financial oversight, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective operation of student success initiatives within the CARE office. By remaining abreast of emerging best practices in student success, the RAS conducts in-depth studies, develops proposals, and delivers insightful reports to both internal and external stakeholders.

A key aspect of this role involves leveraging data analysis to drive decision-making, providing senior leadership with actionable metrics and reports derived from College of Engineering and CARE program data. The RAS may serve as an advisor to one of the CARE-connected student organizations providing guidance and support to student leaders, facilitating the development and execution of initiatives that align with the overarching goals of the CARE office. Additionally, the CARE Senior Specialist for Retention and Academic Success collaborates closely with the Director for Student Academic Success to align efforts and advance retention objectives, stepping into a leadership role in the director's absence.

Flexibility is essential, as the position may require occasional evening or weekend commitments, as well as travel. Significant interaction with various stakeholders is inherent to the role, opportunities for remote or hybrid work schedules are limited.

Hiring Range: $62, 700 - $83,600

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or STEM field or equivalent combination of education and experience; demonstrated experience leading and/or serving in a supportive role successfully implementing women in engineering programs; considerable experience advocating and developing programming for female and ethnic minority students; successful record working with women faculty and leaders; working knowledge of, and experience with, diversity and inclusion "Best Practices" for higher education; adept in Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point; excellent communication and organizational skills; creativity, innovative, flexibility and self-motivation; attention to detail and ability to execute complex projects without instruction; ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse high-performing team; ability to work effectively with a variety of constituents and collaborator; must pass a criminal background check.

Desired Qualifications: Master's degree in engineering or STEM field; experience working with student organizations in an advisory role; experience in higher-level administration in an educational institution; experience with formal group instruction, preferably to college students.
