The Role:

Moderna is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to be a strategic partner to key functional areas within the company, particularly the Therapeutics and Oncology group, to provide financial leadership and enable advanced analytics and reporting. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in financial modeling, forecasting, and budget analysis, coupled with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Here's What You Will Do

  • Financial Planning/Decision Analysis
  • Be the strategic finance business partner to functional leaders within the Development organization, acting with urgency in providing strategic financial insights and recommendations
  • Collaborate with partners and senior leadership teams to support INT, accepting risk as an essential part of achieving impactful outcomes
  • Support all Oncology clinical programs, including INT, while pursuing options in parallel to evaluate the best decisions for the Oncology pipeline and future investments
  • Obsess over learning by continuously refining financial models and forecasts to stay ahead of industry trends and ensure the team learns from every data point available
  • Partner with senior leaders on priorities and budgeting for the Therapeutics and Oncology group, with a focus on pushing past possible to meet ambitious financial and operational goals
  • Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Lead the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for assigned areas, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, while behaving like an owner and taking responsibility for driving both strategy and execution
  • Pivot fearlessly when new data emerges, adjusting financial strategies as necessary to optimize decision-making in a dynamic environment
  • Develop and maintain complex financial models that question convention and explore innovative approaches to support decision-making in a rapidly evolving field
  • Collaboration and Reporting
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Development business partners, Accounting, Procurement, and Human Resources, to ensure financial alignment and remove viscosity in processes, enabling smoother collective action and faster decision-making
  • Present financial reports to business partners, highlighting opportunities and risks while driving dynamic range by being equally adept at both strategy and execution at every step of the financial process
  • Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, utilizing digital tools wherever possible to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency, ensuring digitization everywhere possible to maximize impact
  • Process Improvement and Continuous Learning
  • Obsess over learning by continuously improving FP&A processes and systems to enhance the organization's ability to respond to data and financial analysis
  • Support the continuous improvement of FP&A processes, not just for short-term gains but with a platform-first mindset, ensuring that the platform's evolution supports the long-term financial health of the entire organization

Here's What You'll Need (Basic Qualifications)
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in related field, including financial planning & analysis, and/or financial operations roles
  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA and/or CPA preferred
  • Experience with R&D finance in the Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry, advanced analytical platforms, and visualization tools

Here's What You Will Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Prior experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry is highly preferred
  • Strong business acumen: proven ability to effectively scrutinize and challenge assumptions and interpret the strategy and priorities of the organization in financial terms
  • Excellent project management / leadership skills with demonstrated track record and ability to engage teams to work together towards common deadlines
  • Strong presentation skills to deliver succinctly and effectively deliver recommendations to senior leaders, frames complex concepts
  • Prior experience working in a matrixed environment; experience coordinate processes and delivering results through the collaboration of related teams
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions and different culture
  • Exceptional attitude, diligence, and ability to motivate teams to do the same
  • Understanding of operational dynamics and the external environment
