General Summary: The Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Student Financial Services will report to the Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management and will play a key leadership role in overseeing and enhancing the Office of Financial Aid Services, Merit Scholarship Office, Student Employment Services, Office of Veterans Affairs and The One Stop. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the efforts and strategies of each business unit while providing leadership and expertise in the areas of fund management, compliance, leveraging of aid, operations, student service, and more. The AVC for Student Financial Services will foster and maintain a cross-
departmental commitment to student-centered services, proactive outreach, and support. This position will play a key role in contributing to the achievement of enrollment and student success outcomes in support of the university's mission.
Examples of Duties: Coordinates financial aid and merit scholarship leveraging efforts in collaboration with EnrollmentManagement leadership and key institutional stakeholders.
Monitors and assesses financial aid programs, including scholarships, grants, and loans, to enhance effectiveness and accessibility.Drives the development of creative funding models for the use of scholarship funds alongside other sources of financial support.Liaison with University Advancement to help develop scholarship opportunities that meet donor intent and best serve the UMass Boston community with an eye to efficiency and maximizing impact.Provides guidance and oversight to ensure the integrity and regulatory compliance of all federal and state financial aid programs.Ensures institutional, state and federal reports and audits performed within their area are completed in a timely and consistent manner.Proactively applies best practices, leverages aid, and utilizes effective models to support the enrollment and retention of undergraduate and graduate/professional students.Enhances and maintain services and opportunities within Student Employment that maximize aid and student engagement.Coordinates with IT services with regard to system upgrades and/or implementations, and represents the university in the selection of new products/vendors pertaining to student aid.Represents the university in system-wide and state conversations related to financial aid policies, student financial needs, and educational affordability in the changing higher education climate.Collaborates with campus leaders including Bursar and Registrar to identify opportunities to improve student services within the One Stop and introduce greater efficiency across all areas of responsibility.OFFICIAL POSITION CERTIFICATIONThis is a complete and accurate description of this position.
Offers effective and collaborative support of the University's financial literacy program, which empowers students and families to confidently make well-informed choices about a wide range of financial decisions.Ensures veteran and military affiliated students are receiving support, resources, and educational benefits in a timely manner.Supports the coordination of resources and services provided to veteran and military affiliated students.Qualifications: Master's Degree and a minimum of seven-ten (7-10) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, including prior experience serving as a Director of Financial Aid required. Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws surrounding financial aid and aid administration. Experience monitoring, applying and communicating about Title IV eligibility. Knowledge of Veterans Administration regulation and requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of student information systems and ability to analyze system requirements and data.
