Position Summary:The Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Biology, starting in Fall 2025. This is a full-time (9-month) tenure-track position with an average teaching load of five courses per year.
The Wilkes Honors College (WHC) is a separate unit within FAU, with its own full-time faculty and a four-year, liberal arts and sciences curriculum that includes interdisciplinary coursework, internship opportunities, study abroad programs, and a senior honors thesis. The WHC is located in Jupiter, Florida on FAU's John D. MacArthur Campus, an international hub for scientific research and host to the world-renowned Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation and Technology, as well as FAU's Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute. In addition, FAU's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is located in nearby Fort Pierce.
The WHC's four-year curriculum is centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking, independent study, community-based internships, and cross-disciplinary programs. Minimum Qualifications:The minimum candidate qualifications are a Ph.D. in the Biological Sciences or related field, and evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching. The committee will favorably view potential for collaboration in the interdisciplinary teaching activities of the college, and experience in advising and mentoring undergraduate students. Additionally, the preferred candidate will be qualified to teach anatomy and physiology, including its labs, and/or courses related to cellular biology and genetics.
