The Tippie College of Business seeks candidates for an Assistant Director in their Undergraduate Program Office (UPO). Key responsibilities will include assisting with career curriculum design/class facilitation, internship acquisition, as well as peer mentor training and supervision. Responsibilities will require occasional time outside the 8:00 am to 5:00 pm workday to support student activities and events such as commencement. This position is eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process.

Specific Job Duties and Tasks

  • Assist with designing and teaching Tippie foundational course content for three Tippie student populations. Will assist in designing internship and early career exploration and foundational career course content.
  • Assist with building, managing, and maintaining course content for ICON, lesson plans, and agendas for peer mentors, as well as UPO and campus partner content delivery.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, New Student Experience, instruct BUS:2200 course sections including delivering course content and overseeing student completion issues and concerns.
  • Make decisions regarding satisfactory student completion of the BUS:2200 course.
  • Hire, develop and manage the performance of student staff (peer mentors); assure staff are compliant with UI policies and procedures.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, and training peer mentors (student teaching assistants) who assist with course facilitation.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources and challenge them to make and work toward personal, academic, internship, and career goals.
  • Manage enrollment and teach BUS:3100 Academic Internship/Cooperative Ed in the fall, spring, and summer terms, as well as track outcomes and maintain assessment of student experiences in collaboration with Assistant Director, Employer Relations & Internships.

Hybrid within Iowa: This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Salary: $50,000-$60,000

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor's degree in business, student affairs, or a related field

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Typically, 3 to 5 years in a student services role supporting undergraduate student success such as academic advising, orientation, academic support and retention, internship/career advising, student life or similar.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in internship/career exploration courses and/or early career advising and internship acquisition.
  • Expert knowledge of and ability to communicate effectively with individuals and large groups both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated constructive and collaborative relationship building skills with a variety of individuals and groups, including peers, leadership, and external constituents.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master's degree in business, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Reasonable experience teaching first year, internship/career, or transition seminars to undergraduate students.
  • Reasonable training in effective teaching practices
  • Reasonable experience working individually with undergraduate students in an ongoing advising or mentoring capacity, particularly related to internship exploration and early career advising.
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures related to undergraduate students.
